Pop star Britney Spears was arrested in early March on suspicion of a DUI. Her friend and former assistant, Sean Phillip, has spoken up about her arrest, expressing concern that the “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer is not as free as she seems to be. Although Britney was released from her court-ordered conservatorship in November 2021, many fans are still concerned about the pop star’s well-being.

The “Toxic” singer’s former assistant, Sean Phillip, seemed to fuel the fires of fan concern on Wednesday, March 11, when he told Extra, “I think there are some people out to get her.”

“The timing is so off that she gets financial independence and then she’s arrested,” he said, referring to the recent sale of her music catalog for $200 million. “We all think it’s a push to put her back in a conservatorship, because guess what happened when the conservatorship stopped? People stopped getting money.”

“I don’t think she’s free. There’s still a care plan in place,” he added. “I personally don’t think she has access to all of her finances, but a lot of other people do. I don’t think it’s fair.”

Britney’s Former Assistant Says He Talked To Her After Her Arrest

Phillip, who has been friends with Britney since 2023, says that he spoke to her after she was arrested and released.

“She said, ‘I’m OK, I’m OK,’” in a text message, he claimed. He also addressed their long friendship, saying they had lost touch for several years after their conservatorship but had recently reconnected.

“It’s been 20 years since we were seriously hanging out, and it’s just been, like, nice. Just send each other funny stuff and just, you know, just, ‘I miss you, I miss you, I miss you,’” he explained. He described their interactions as “funny conversations and joy.”

Phillip also explained how he used to hang out with Britney and her two sons, Sean Preston, now 20, and Jayden James, now 19.

“We used to go out together, just us and the kids,” he said. “Nobody else. We would go to the zoo, we do things, we just go do things, and there was never a problem.”

In reference to her court hearing on May 4, Phillip added, “I encourage her to speak for herself because she can squash everything in a second.”

On March 4, the 44-year-old “Criminal” singer was arrested near her home in Ventura County, California, “on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs,” according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol. She was taken into custody and booked but released on Thursday morning.

The day after her arrest, her rep released a statement, calling her arrest “an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.” The statement went on to say:

“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”

In the week following her DUI arrest, a Los Angeles associate who has regular contact with her friend group and her family exclusively told Page Six that Britney is “antagonized” by the thought of reconnecting with her father, Jamie Spears, even though her family is encouraging her to do so.

“Even the boys have gotten back into their grandad’s life after some tough times,” an insider shared. “They would welcome a united family despite all the years of drama.”

However, another source noted that Britney feels “long-term hatred” towards her father and has no plans to reconnect. The insider went on to say, “Sadly, she will always view her father as a villain because of how she felt trapped and controlled within the conservatorship.”

In related news, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office recently revealed that it will not release her mugshot.
