Celine thanked her fans for their prayers, support, love, and kindness since she stepped away from performing over the past few years. She noted that her fans have helped her in ways she cannot describe, and that feeling has even made missing them much more intense.

The superstar’s journey with her diseases has not exactly been a secret, with interviews providing a glimpse into how much of a battle she was up against. The Blast shared that weeks before the Paris concert, she got raw and real about the crushing effects of Stiff Person Syndrome on her life and career.

She confessed to Hoda Kotb that the attacks feel like strangulation and having to experience someone pressing on the throat. Celine also focused on the effect of the condition on her vocal health, stating: “It’s like you’re talking like that, and you cannot go higher or lower. It gets into a spasm.”

The musician added that the physical effects also included painful muscle spasms and stiffness that would leave them inactive for minutes, writhing in agony. As noted by the Cleveland Clinic, stiff person syndrome is a rare condition that causes muscle stiffness, and there is no cure for the syndrome except for treatments that can manage the symptoms and slow the progression of the condition.

The 58-year-old revealed she had been battling the syndrome for 17 years amid her late husband’s cancer battle and raising the kids. Celine, in her interview, confessed that she initially pushed aside the symptoms and did not make any move to investigate them.

She expressed regret that she had not taken the time to find out what was going on with her health, but her husband was fighting to stay alive, and that took precedence. The death of René Angélil in 2016 made it worse for her because she had to shoulder raising the children alone while keeping her health a secret from the public.

Celine noted that lying to people about being okay while watching her body fall apart felt like a burden. The singer shared that she once suffered a broken rib because of the severe nature of her condition, and her spasms can also occur in the abdomen and spine.

Wishing Celine Dion a wonderful birthday filled with lovely memories!
