The tech billionaire recently doubled down on his stance about the Academy Awards following this year’s ceremony on Sunday, March 15.

Elon Musk has slammed the event for years, particularly tearing into the organization following the introduction of its representation and inclusion standards.

On March 16, Musk responded to a fellow “woke” critic’s post about the 2026 Oscars. The person had been appalled by the Academy Awards’ “diversity inclusion” quota, which requires films competing for Best Picture to follow certain rules.

The list included having at least one lead or supporting actor “from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group in a specific country or territory of production.” The critic argued that if the beloved “GODFATHER” movie were made today, it wouldn’t be eligible for an Oscar unless it followed woke principles.

The critic implied that woke culture would be the death of Hollywood, a sentiment Musk seemed to support. He reposted the fan’s words on X, along with the caption, “Oscars have become unwatchable.” This marked one of his many retorts against the Academy’s diversity standards.

Musk made his disagreement with the Academy Awards’ representation and inclusion standards in 2025 when a critic spoke out against the rules. The individual pointed out that the new rules required the inclusion of underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, the LGBTQ+ community, or people with disabilities.

These standards were set for movies contending for the Best Picture Award, rules Musk could not support. “This is messed up. Should just be who is best, not best with an asterisk!” he declared in a March 3, 2025, post. He previously echoed similar sentiments in 2024.

At the time, Musk claimed that the Oscars had lost their prestige, noting that they had now become a “woke contest.” He doubled down on his stance in a subsequent tweet, arguing, “When an award is diluted, everyone knows, including those who received it, and it no longer commands respect.”

Musk wasn’t the only one disappointed by the 2024 Oscars, as Donald Trump echoed similar sentiments on his Truth Social platform. The politician began by blasting then-host Jimmy Kimmel, comparing his opening to someone “trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be.”

Trump advised showrunners to replace Kimmel with “another washed-up, but cheap, ABC’ talent,’ George Slopanopoulos.” He believed Slopanopoulos would be less of a train wreck than Kimmel, whom he dubbed the worst Oscars host.

The politician agreed with Musk that the Oscars were not the prestigious show they once were, claiming they had been “disjointed, boring, and very unfair” for years. “Why don’t they just give the Oscars to those that deserve them?” Trump wondered, before signing off with his signature “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Musk’s war against the woke culture made headlines in 2024 following a shocking statement. The Blast covered the story in July 2024, reporting that the tech mogul had gotten emotional while addressing his transgender daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, formerly known as Xavier.

Musk alleged that he was tricked into signing off on Vivian’s transition, claiming he never knew “puberty blockers are actually just sterilization drugs.” He argued that those supporting and allowing children to transition should be imprisoned before lamenting the loss of his son, figuratively.

“So my son Xavier is dead, killed by the woke mind virus,” Musk said. Although Vivian is still very much alive, the businessman believes that he lost his son following his transition to female. The experience appears to haunt him still, as he declared his intentions to file for full custody of his youngest son after his baby mama became pro-trans.

Elon Musk Stands Against Ashley St. Clair’s Pro-Trans Movement

The drama between Musk and one of the mothers of his 14 children, Ashley St. Clair, began after the latter issued an apology to the trans community. The Blast shared the story in January 2026, reporting that St. Clair had acknowledged her past mistakes and hoped to make amends with the trans community.

She explained that she initially hesitated addressing the topic publicly because she feared people would see her apology as insincere. Nonetheless, St. Clair stressed that she had deeply reflected on herself and had been making efforts to support the community in private.

Following St. Clair’s pro-trans switch, an X user advised Musk to file for full custody of their son. The billionaire agreed, replying that he would pursue the case because he believed St. Clair’s words implied she “might transition a one-year-old boy.”
