The Duggar family has once again found itself under intense legal and public scrutiny following a shocking development involving one of its members. 

Years after the family’s first major scandal with Josh Duggar made international headlines, another son, Joseph Duggar, from the famous reality television clan, has been taken into custody, and fans are calling for a deeper investigation into the family.

Many are convinced Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar should also be investigated, claiming the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Joseph Garrett Duggar Is Facing Serious Charges

Joseph, a 31-year-old former star of “19 Kids and Counting,” was arrested on Wednesday following allegations that he molested a nine-year-old girl.

According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, the reality personality faces charges of lewd and lascivious behavior involving a victim under 12, as well as similar charges involving a victim over 18. 

The investigation began after the Tontitown Police Department in Arkansas contacted Florida authorities regarding a past incident involving a victim who is now 14 years old. During a forensic interview, the girl described several disturbing encounters that allegedly took place in 2020 during a family trip to Panama City Beach. 

Page Six reported that she recalled Joseph repeatedly asking her to sit on his lap and, in one instance, covering them both with a blanket on a couch to touch her inappropriately. The victim also alleged that the real estate broker and businessman rubbed her thighs on multiple occasions during that same vacation. 

Fans Call For An Investigation Into The ‘Whole’ Duggar Family

Joseph’s arrest has led to a public outcry from fans online who are demanding that the entire Duggar family be subjected to an intense investigation, including Jim Bob and Michelle.

One fan pointedly wrote, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” and another agreed, writing, “An investigation needs to be done on that WHOLE FAMILY, including their father.” 

“Hmm… Generational abuse, perhaps? Statistically, that’s usually the case…” one fan wrote. Another fan expressed distrust for the parents, noting that something about them “just didn’t sit right.” 

Meanwhile, other fans noted that the train of events couldn’t be coincidental. One comment read, “At what point do we investigate Jim Bob Duggar? I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that two of the boys have now been charged (one convicted) for sexual assault involving minors.”

Jill Duggar Revealed Abuse In Family In Memoir

The recent legal developments surrounding Joseph’s arrest for the abuse of a child serve as a grim echo of the internal family conflicts that have long plagued the household. 

In September 2023, Jill Duggar released her memoir, “Counting the Cost,” which detailed the “cult-like” environment and favoritism she experienced growing up.

As The Blast reported, a significant portion of the book focuses on a failed mediation attempt between Jill; her husband Derick Dillard, and her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle. 

During this meeting, Jill attempted to address the strained relationship and the verbal abuse she felt she had suffered at the hands of her father. However, the conversation quickly turned volatile when Jim Bob became defensive and aggressive, demanding an apology for her accusations rather than acknowledging her pain.

Jill explicitly noted the irony of her father’s behavior, stating that he treated her significantly worse than he treated her brother, a convicted pedophile. 

Josh Duggar Still Has A Long Way To Go In Prison

While internal friction within the Duggar family has exposed deep-seated issues, the legal system has provided a firmer resolution for the family’s most notorious member, Josh. The legal battle over his 12-year prison sentence reached a definitive conclusion in October 2023. 

Despite a determined effort by his legal team to overturn his conviction and secure a new trial, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the request. As such, he is set to remain in prison for about six more years, per The Blast.

This ruling ensures that the disgraced reality star will remain behind bars to serve the remainder of his sentence for the possession and receipt of child pornography, further solidifying the consequences of his actions.

Josh Duggar Continues To Challenge His Conviction

While Josh’s initial efforts to secure a new trial were unsuccessful, he has continued to challenge his conviction by targeting the witnesses who spoke against him. 

In July 2025, the former reality star filed new court documents attempting to overturn his child pornography conviction by questioning the validity of Bobye Holt’s testimony. Holt, the mother of Josh’s former girlfriend, had provided a crucial emotional account during the original trial. 

According to The Blast, Josh argued in his latest filing that Holt’s “uncorroborated and prejudicial testimony” was a violation of his constitutional rights. He believed her presence on the stand deprived him of a fair trial, as she discussed past behavior that was never formally charged.
