Fans are already on board with the casting choice for Martha Stewart’s upcoming biopic, as reports confirm that Cate Blanchett will portray the lifestyle mogul.
While details about the rest of the cast remain under wraps, the project has been quietly gaining traction, especially after Stewart herself previously hinted at Blanchett’s involvement. She also revealed that the film is currently operating under the working title “Good Thing.”
Stewart was also the subject of a Netflix documentary in 2024, though she later admitted it left her with mixed feelings about the way her story was depicted.
Martha Stewart’s Biopic Will Feature Cate Blanchett In Lead Role

The story of Stewart is heading back to the big screen. This time, the TV star’s life will be revisited in a scripted biopic, with reports confirming that Blanchett will take on the role of the homemaking icon. The actress will bring her Oscar-winning pedigree to the project, having previously taken home two Academy Awards for “The Aviator” and Martin Scorsese’s “Blue Jasmine.”
While Blanchett has yet to comment publicly on the role, Stewart herself had already hinted at the casting before it became official.
During a red-carpet appearance, she revealed she had been hearing buzz about a biopic in development with Blanchett attached to star. Speaking to Variety at the time, Stewart also shared that the project is operating under the working title “Good Thing,” a nod to her signature phrase, “It’s a good thing.”
Fans Praise Blanchett’s Casting As Martha Stewart

Social media lit up following news that Blanchett is set to portray Stewart, with many fans already convinced the casting is a perfect match.
“Propaganda I’m standing for. For sure, my favourite actress and she’ll kill this,” one fan commented on X.
“This casting feels way too perfect to ignore,” another user added. “Oscar-level performance incoming?”
One more individual summed up the mixed excitement and curiosity surrounding the casting, writing, “Cate Blanchett as Martha Stewart? This is either going to be genius or absolutely iconic chaos.”
The Biopic Has No Release Date Yet

For now, the upcoming biopic centered on Martha Stewart remains without a confirmed release date, and additional casting details are still under wraps.
What is known, however, is that South African screenwriter Ricky Tollman is attached to pen the script. Meanwhile, Blanchett will not only star in the film but also serve as a producer alongside Coco Francini, Randy Manis, and Neil Dodson.
The project will be directed by Janicza Bravo, who previously co-wrote and helmed the 2020 film “Zola.”
Stewart Has Been Portrayed On Screen Before
While anticipation builds for the upcoming biopic, Stewart is no stranger to having her life adapted for the screen.
In the early 2000s, the lifestyle mogul was portrayed by Cybill Shepherd in the television films “Martha, Inc.: The Story of Martha Stewart” and “Martha Behind Bars.” The former traced her rise to the top of the homemaking industry, while the latter focused on her time in prison after a fraud conviction.
More recently, a documentary about Stewart was released by Netflix in 2024.
“I love the first half of the documentary,” she said in an interview with the New York Times at the time. However, she took issue with the film’s heavier focus on her 2003 insider trading case and subsequent five-month prison sentence, arguing that it represented only a small chapter of her life.
Martha Stewart Revealed Why She Chose R.J. Cutler For Netflix Biopic

Stewart was closely involved in shaping her 2024 Netflix documentary, including handpicking R.J. Cutler to direct. Speaking to Variety, she explained why she ultimately chose him over other candidates, including female directors she had considered.
“I had interviewed two women who were very accomplished documentarians, and I just wanted to work with a man,” she said. “So, it was kind of fun to not work with yet another woman.”
At the time, Stewart also offered insight into her upcoming autobiography, which she first announced in 2024.
“Whatever R.J. didn’t discover going through my archives, I will be able to use in the autobiography,” she explained. “It will not be 936 pages like [Barbra Streisand’s 2023 memoir], but it is chronological, and it is very interesting.”
