Jason Earles, known for his role as Jackson Stewart in the Disney series “Hannah Montana,” has recently made headlines. On an episode of his podcast, the actor, now 48, revealed he lied to the show’s producers about his age to be cast in the series. Earles revealed that things were smooth sailing until executives confronted him about his actual age weeks into filming.
‘Hannah Montana’ Star Jason Earles Reveals A Major Secret About His Role Amid The Show’s 20th Anniversary
Earles, who also appeared in the Disney productions “Dadnapped” and “Kickin’ It,” shared on a recent episode of his “Best of Both Our Worlds” podcast that he was “desperately afraid” he would be fired and recast early in the series.
Earles explained that when he auditioned for the series, he lied to the producers about his age. He went on to say that his age was actually one of the reasons he almost didn’t audition. “I’m too old; the character is 16, nobody’s gonna buy it,” he said.
Continuing, Earles claimed he was encouraged to lie about his age by the show’s casting director, Lisa London. He then shared that the show’s executive producers became aware of his age (28) after he had filmed eight episodes of the first season and advised him to keep a low profile until the show officially wrapped several years later.
Earles’ Confession About His Role On ‘Hannah Montana’ Has Caused Some Mixed Reactions
Earles’ confession has sparked a mixed response on social media. One user called out the “creepy” behavior and slammed Disney executives for not catching on sooner. “Teen shows always have romance plotlines and having a nearly 30-year-old man share romance scenes/spots with minors is gross,” they shared. “Disney and Nick did not protect child actors back then.”
Several other users implied they could tell Earles did not fit in with the cast. “I knew Jackson looked a little ‘too refined’ for a teenager,” someone wrote. “Imagine being 28, married, and having to do slapstick comedy with a 13-year-old Miley Cyrus every day. The hustle was real!”
Another netizen defended Earles, writing, “Idk why some of y’all are up in arms. High School Musical had people cosplaying as highschoolers that were all over 21 years old. Alot of TV shows and movies had/have that. It’s not like he lied for anything heinous. He did it to be on TV.”
Earles’ Admission Comes Days Before Miley Cyrus Returns To Disney In The ‘Hannah Montana’ Reunion

Earles’ headline-making revelation comes at an interesting time, as Cyrus is gearing up to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary on Disney+ alongside Alex Cooper.
According to The Blast, Cyrus is going back to where it all began on March 24, 2026, taking Hannah fans on a trip down memory lane to revisit the show’s most iconic sets and songs.
“Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection,” Cyrus said. “The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
New Trailer Shows Cyrus Singing ‘Best Of Both Worlds’
The 20th anniversary special should be everything fans are hoping for and more, as a new trailer showed Cyrus driving in her “Hannah Montana” convertible before joining Cooper on stage.
“It’s good to be home!” she said in the clip.
Another emotional scene showed Cyrus speaking with her mother, Tish Cyrus, and thanking her for her support.
“I’ve loved being Hannah and I’ve loved being Miley Cyrus,” she said. “You’ve really taught me how to be who I am.”
Cyrus Vs Raven Symone

Cyrus was also in the headlines earlier this week after her Disney peer, Raven Symoné, excluded her from her Disney Channel Mount Rushmore. “I love you, Miley, but she came after,” Symoné said, per The Blast.
Symoné’s words sparked a bit of chaos online, as social media users battled back and forth over who made the most impact.
“I can turn on ‘That’s So Raven’ right now and laugh my [butt] off,” someone wrote. “Can’t say the same for the rest of them other shows.”
“Raven’s entire point was about who built the era during her time on the Disney Channel, not who was the most popular Disney show ever,” another user shared. “The problem is a lot of y’all don’t listen.”
