Katy Perry is facing criticism online after a brief response to a struggling fan sparked a wave of backlash across social media. The pop star, who is currently touring after a massively successful run of shows, found herself under fire when fans accused her of appearing out of touch following an exchange with a follower who admitted they might have to sell their concert ticket just to stay afloat financially. While some critics slammed Katy Perry’s reply as “tone-deaf,” the moment has also reignited conversation about how celebrities interact with fans online.
Fan Admits She May Have To Sell Katy Perry’s Ticket

The controversy began when a fan named Ria took to X on Tuesday to share a deeply personal message about her financial struggles.
In the post, the fan explained that rising costs had left her questioning whether she could afford to keep her ticket to one of Perry’s upcoming European tour dates. “I so badly don’t wanna be here anymore. I’m not cut out for this world, like I cannot afford to live at this rate, and I’m so close to selling my Katy ticket,” she wrote.
The emotional message quickly caught attention on the platform, with many users sympathizing with the fan’s difficult situation.
Perry’s Short Reply Sparks Criticism

Perry responded directly to the post, but her brief reply quickly became the center of controversy. The singer, whose “Lifetimes Tour” reportedly generated more than $134 million in ticket sales in 2025, responded simply, “But I am looking forward to seeing you!”
While the comment appeared supportive on the surface, with Rix herself even responding “I love you,” many social media users felt it overlooked the financial hardship the fan had described.
Social Media Users Call Katy Perry’s Response ‘Out Of Touch’

Criticism quickly spread across the platform as fans began sharing their reactions to the exchange. Several commenters argued that the pop star had missed the deeper meaning behind the fan’s message. “This is so grim…. Not even an offer of a free ticket or help offered… girl,” one critic wrote.
Another added, “Wow Katy, you’re clearly so out of touch! You just keep living your out-of-touch high life while everyone else is barely able to afford essentials (food, rent, insurance).”
The criticism continued to pile on, with other users suggesting the singer could have offered a different gesture of support. “I’m genuinely losing it at the audacity,” someone said. “No ticket or anything? Just straight up left you hanging. Where is the hospitality girl.”
Another commenter chimed in, “If you ‘loved her’, you’d give her a VIP Meet and Greet Package and tell her to sell the ticket so she could have extra money to enjoy the show. This is so tone deaf lmao.”
The backlash stands in contrast to another fan interaction earlier during Perry’s “Lifetimes Tour” that earned the singer widespread praise.
Perry Previously Praised For Helping Fan During Concert

Back in August, Perry invited several audience members on stage during a performance at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. During the moment, one fan named McKenna collapsed while standing on stage. Perry immediately stepped in to assist, staying beside the fan while the situation unfolded.
Noticing McKenna appeared overwhelmed, Perry handed what looked like shaker instruments to the fans on stage and encouraged them to remain calm. “Let’s practice. You got this, and let’s breathe,” she said in a video shared on social media.
When McKenna fell to the ground, Perry knelt beside her, supporting her head while waiting for medical professionals to arrive. She later gathered the fans on stage for a prayer. “Dear God, we pray for McKenna, that she will come back fully and brighter and better than ever. Amen,” Perry said in another clip.
Katy Perry Later Reassured Fans About McKenna

As the show continued, Perry also spoke candidly about how overwhelming it can feel to stand in front of thousands of people. “It’s so much,” Perry admitted in viral videos. “Sometimes you’re so brave, and you can get on stage, and it’s overwhelming. I understand that feeling.”
Later in the night, the singer reassured the crowd that the fan was doing well following the incident. “McKenna’s doing great, by the way,” she told the audience.
Fans Rally Around Struggling Follower Amid Backlash

While much of the reaction to the exchange focused on criticizing Katy Perry’s response, many social media users shifted their attention to supporting the fan who originally shared the emotional message. Several people flooded the replies with encouraging words, offering compassion and reminding the user that she wasn’t alone.
One supporter shared their own experience, writing, “Hey sweetie! Last year, I had an attempt. Katy’s concert was one of the few things that made me stay. I understand what you’re going through, and I swear it gets better. Do you want to talk? Or maybe fangirl over Katy? I’m here for you.”
Another fan also chimed in with a heartfelt message of encouragement, writing, “sending you positive energies, remember that to reach the rainbow, we need to go through the storm… be well.”
