As photos from the red carpet surfaced, the comment section quickly lit up with reactions, many of them harsh. Some users made comparisons to her famous family, with one writing, “She looks like her dad lol,” while another commented, “I always said Michael had not died but transformed into La Toya.”

Others leaned into pop culture references, with one remarking, “She looks like Yzma from ‘The Emperor’s New Groove.’ Where’s Kronk?” while another bluntly added, “Michael in drag.”

The premiere comes just days before “Michael” officially hits theaters on April 24. The film will follow the King of Pop’s journey from his early days with The Jackson 5 to his rise as a global superstar.

La Toya Jackson revealed that not every member of the famous family signed on for “Michael,” including sister Janet Jackson. “I wish everybody was in the movie,” La Toya said at the film’s premiere at the Dolby Theatre. “She was asked, and she kindly declined, so you have to respect her wishes.”

The Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic features Jaafar Jackson portraying Michael Jackson, alongside Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson and Nia Long as Katherine Jackson. La Toya is played by Jessica Sula, while Juliano Valdi takes on the role of a younger Michael.

“Oh my gosh, I have to tell you that Jaafar was absolutely fabulous,” LaToya said of Jaafar taking on the role of Michael. “I’m sure you’ve seen the movie, and you know how wonderful he is, how we all forget and think that we’re watching Mike. It’s like, ‘Oh, I forgot this is Jaafar.’”

Director Antoine Fuqua emphasized that involving the family was a priority. “You’re telling somebody’s life, you want to make sure that they’re happy,” he said.

While the film has backing from Michael’s estate, with Prince Jackson serving as an executive producer, his siblings Paris Jackson and Bigi Jackson are not involved. Paris has been vocal about her concerns, claiming the film includes “a lot of inaccuracies” and “a lot of full-blown lies.”

“The film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy. And they’re going to be happy with it,” she said in a social media video.

La Toya Jackson had already sparked concern among fans last year after sharing a series of videos from a doctor’s office. In one clip, she told followers, “I’m here at the doctor again, so I’m hoping that everything goes well with me, all results are good, and I hope you guys have a great day, bye.”

Just days later, the former Playboy cover star posted another update from a follow-up visit, saying, “Guess where I am on this Monday morning? You guessed, that place again. I’m constantly getting check-ups. Oh well. Have a great week, guys.”

The concern intensified in December when La Toya went viral after posting a video that many viewers said highlighted her noticeably slim frame. As the clip gained millions of views, speculation about her health spread across social media, prompting Jackson to respond, though she didn’t directly address the rumors.

“I hear you, I see you, I send you love, and I wish to say! Enjoy your weekend with all positivity!” she wrote.
