Kim Kardashian‘s empathy is being put to the test!

The reality star is now getting pressured by the man who sued her to reconsider her plea that he foots the six-figure legal bills accrued during their court case.

Ivan, who lost his lawsuit against the business mogul, is urging the judge to find a way to let him off from paying any legal fees in the case in response to Kim’s latest filing. Ivan’s petition that Kim misidentified him in an Instagram post in 2024, thereby causing him significant emotional distress, was thrashed by the judge.

A judge ruled that the mother-of-four’s advocacy fell under constitutionally protected free speech, adding that Ivan failed to prove tangible damages directly stemming from Kim’s brief, unintentional error. In the post, Kim was suing for the case of a man put on death row to be put on hold and had mistakenly used Ivan’s picture, although she immediately deleted it after the discovery, with her lawyer stating that it was a simple mistake.

Following Kim’s victory, she asked that Ivan pay $145,000 in legal fees and costs, to which Ivan insists that Kim was the one who made the mistake and not him, hence he should not be held responsible. As noted by TMZ, Ivan argued that since Kim was born and raised in luxury, with an enviable net worth of $1.9 billion and a thriving career alongside millions of social media followers to back it up, she could afford it.

Ivan added that while Kim has shared some notable posts on her social media for a great cause like freeing innocent inmates, asking for higher, better pay for service workers, and the like, she still gets income from sponsored posts.

Ivan continued that aside from the fact that he is miles outside Kim’s tax bracket and financial level, he also has to take care of his two daughters, making it more difficult to take up such an emergency six-figure emergency. Ivan noted that the SKIMS founder would survive if $145,000 left in her bank account, but forcing him to pay such an amount would financially ruin him.

Ivan, who is a New York-based project manager, had no criminal record, unlike Ivan “Abner” Cantu, the Texas inmate facing execution. The Texas inmate was unfortunately executed on February 28, 2024, despite the public campaign to delay the sentence.

The Hulu star established her face and name in stardom years ago, becoming a camera darling and the most sought-after for fashion houses in Hollywood. However, she hit the switch in 2018 with the story of Alice Marie and her subsequent efforts to get her out of prison, going as far as sitting directly across from President Donald Trump to plead her case and then winning.

She bumped things up a notch by pivoting into law to fill her late father, Robert Kardashian’s, big shoes, taking the baby bar exam for the first time in 2020, and finally passing after her fourth attempt in 2021. Kim has also visited prisons, met with inmates, and heard their stories while asking for second chances.

Kim also began working with an initiative focused on reducing the rate of incarceration known as #Cut50 and learned from accomplished attorneys Jessica Jackson and Erin Haney. Since passing her baby bar exams in 2021, she has completed her six-year apprenticeship in May 2025. However, she failed the official California State Bar Exam, according to a new post she shared in November 2025.

Kim showed what stuff she was made of during the Pacific Palisades last January when she witnessed inmates work front-line to rescue victims and put the fire out for good. As shared by The Blast, she tagged Governor Newsom on her Instagram, suggesting that reviewing these wages and eventually raising them would be a positive development for the incarcerated people.

The reality star stated that the inmates worked for hours under uncomfortable weather conditions to earn almost a paltry $1 every hour, which was nothing compared to the impact of the disaster, which left dozens homeless in its wake.

About 1000 inmates assisted in curbing the wildfire, which burned over 40,000 acres and killed 16 people. Kim also recently lent her voice to a new bill introduced by Senator Cory Booker in March to advance further the cause of incarcerated firefighters earning minimum wage through amendments to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

In her response to her ex’s claims that she and her mother, Kris Jenner, were under a federal investigation, the SKIMS founder claimed that his careless allegations could jeopardize her journey. As reported by The Blast, Kim emphasized in the filing that, according to the California State Bar, before she becomes an attorney, her moral character must be thoroughly examined, and this includes looking into allegations of criminal misconduct or dishonesty.

She registered her concerns that her failure to promptly address Ray J’s stories before the California State Bar and everyone involved in her evaluation may come with dire consequences. The rapper, however, stated that for any of his allegations to have any effect on Kim’s career, she would first have to pass the bar exam, which she failed last year. According to him:

“Regardless, it is unclear why vague, third-party allegations from [an interview] and a Twitch stream could ever ‘jeopardize’ her legal career. It would be the underlying wrongful conduct, none of which Kim and Kris have denied.”
