Hulk Hogan, one of wrestling’s most iconic figures, is featured in his final interview in the new Netflix docuseries “Hulk Hogan: Real American.” The four-part documentary explores the highs of his legendary career in the ring, and the fame and fortune he enjoyed, as well as the lows, including several controversies and personal struggles he faced.

The series offers an intimate look at the life of the wrestling legend before he passed away at 71 years old in 2025.

Hulk Hogan In His Own Words

On April 6, Netflix dropped the trailer for the upcoming series “Hulk Hogan: Real American” two weeks before its release. At the start of the two-minute video, the iconic wrestler, real name Terry Gene Bollea, is seen walking with a cane, a sharp contrast to his larger-than-life persona in the ring.

“In wrestling, you should be remembered from all the wars you’ve had and everything you’ve done,” said Hogan. “Some people hate me, but after I’m gone, I think people don’t know the truth. Who was this guy really?” he continued.

Hogan is then seen appearing to have difficulty while working out, grunting before saying, “That’s the hardest part, standing up.”

While the series highlights Hogan’s rise to fame, it also won’t shy away from the scandals that damaged his reputation and the backlash that followed. “Most of us think of Hulk Hogan as the king of the ring, but was there a sinister side to his success?” a reporter said in a voiceover from an archival news clip featured in the trailer. “What Hogan preaches is apparently not what he practices,” another reporter said.

The trailer then shows Hogan in his younger days hanging out with a group of women and NBA legend Dennis Rodman. “I was out pretty hard partying. Maybe I was drunk, maybe high. I don’t know what to tell you,” Hogan confessed.

In 2023, the wrestler admitted to struggling with alcohol and painkillers, saying that he drank heavily during his wrestling years. “I wrestled almost 40 years, off and on, and I probably should have quit at the 20-year mark,” Hogan said in retrospect.

Linda Hogan was married to the wrestling icon for 24 years. They had two children together, Brooke, born in 1988, and Nick, born in 1990. Linda accused her husband of cheating with their daughter’s friend, which was later revealed to be true. The couple separated in 2007, and their divorce was finalized two years later.

Shortly after the divorce, Linda opened up, saying, “We all worked really hard and way too much to the point where we really didn’t have any emotion left. We were just robots functioning on a weird level.”

Hogan and Linda were not on speaking terms for several years, but she agreed to be in the docuseries. “We literally didn’t speak to each other anymore, but I realized I still love him,” she confessed, as seen in the trailer.

The trailer also showed home videos of a younger Hogan playing with his kids. “Life was so clear. Where did that life go? The mistakes shone through,” he said.

Brooke admitted to having had a deep bond with her father, but in 2003, she stopped communicating with her father. It was assumed the reason was her disapproval of Hogan’s third wife, Sky Daily, but Brooke’s husband, Steven Oleksy, said that wasn’t the case.

“My wife will say it — it had nothing to do with his new wife. It had to do with the way he treated [Brooke],” Oleksy told PEOPLE in 2025. He added that Hogan’s controversies had “taken a toll” on Brooke. Moreover, the wrestler refused to walk his daughter down the aisle when she was married in 2022.

On July 24, 2025, officials responded to an emergency call from Hogan’s home in Clearwater, Florida. The wrestler was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Hogan’s cause of death was listed as an acute myocardial infarction, more commonly known as a heart attack. He was 71 years old.

Following his death, his wife, Daily, took to social media and revealed that prior to his death, the wrestler had some “health issues” but didn’t provide details. “I had so much faith in his strength. I thought we still had more time,” she wrote. “To the world, he was a legend… but to me, he was my Terry. The man I loved. My partner. My heart,” she concluded.
