Former “Real Housewives of Potomac” star Mia Thornton was arrested in November 2025 on charges related to stealing furniture. Now, several months later, court documents have emerged showing the RHOP alum has been sued for unpaid rent. In addition to the arrest, she was previously sued for eviction after leaving the hit Bravo series.
RHOP’s Mia Thornton Was Sued In March

According to US Weekly, Thornton has been sued by a luxury apartment rental company in Atlanta for allegedly failing to pay her rent. The court documents were filed on March 18, and the former “RHOP” star is said to owe the landlord $2,859 in back rent as of March 2026.
That’s not all; the “Real Housewives of Potomac” alum also owes an additional $3,500 in fees. It’s unclear what the debt is for, but it’s reasonable to assume a portion of the cost is due to late fees.
The ‘RHOP’ Alum Is Still Dealing With The Fallout Of Her Arrest

As mentioned, this development comes months after her November 2025 arrest. According to NBC News, she was arrested after being accused of stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of couches from a rental property.
She was arrested at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport after officers responded to a call about a wanted person there. Her official charge was felony theft by taking
Per the outlet, the police report says Thornton and a man, Jared McGriff, left the rental property in the middle of the night in October 2025. They also “took all of the furniture which was in the unit prior to their move in as well as the TV which was on the wall.”
The landlord stated that the total cost for the allegedly stolen items was $11,000. McGriff was not arrested.
‘Potomac’ Fans Are Weighing In
Thornton joined “The Real Housewives of Potomac” for its sixth season, which premiered in 2021. She then left the show in 2025. Now, following her arrest and subsequent legal issues, fans are weighing in, with many surprised at the low amount they sued her for.
One person said on X, “They’re suing for less than 5k? That seems suspicious…” Someone then replied, saying, “It’s not… she didn’t pay rent, so they filed an eviction, aka a lawsuit…. This can happen for $500 in rent.”
Another “RHOP” fan wrote, “Wth did she do with the income she earned on RHOP that she can’t afford 1 month’s rent…???”
Someone else stated, “Never forget how she was clowining Candiace Dillard for her low-budget music video.”
Lastly, a different social media user said, “3500, y’all Mia is down bad. I don’t know, she left her husband for these short men who make her steal furniture from Airbnb and not pay rent.”
The RHOP Alum Was Previously Sued For Eviction
US Weekly reported in November 2025 that Thornton and McGriff had been sued for eviction by Encore Management in September 2025. Not only did the suit request eviction, but the parties also had to pay past-due rent totaling $5,100, as well as $6,085 for the months they remained at the high-rise luxury Atlanta property.
Additionally, the suit sought $700 in unspecified fees. The outlet also noted that Thornton previously faced an eviction lawsuit in March 2024 over a property in North Carolina.
Thornton Announced Her ‘RHOP’ Exit After A Tough Reunion
Thornton’s last appearance on “The Real Housewives of Potomac” saw her leave the reunion early after being grilled about her level of honesty throughout the season. After that, Deadline reported that she announced her exit with a social media post.
She said, “With every new season comes a new beginning, and I have some news to share. My family and I have made the decision to relocate to Atlanta, and with that, I will not be returning to The Real Housewives of Potomac next season.”
She continued, “The past four seasons have been an unforgettable journey, one filled with growth, lessons, and so many incredible memories. I want to thank Truly Original, Bravo, NBCUniversal, and Andy Cohen for believing in me and giving me the space to share my story. To my castmates: thank you for the laughs, the lessons, and the unforgettable moments. And to the amazing fans, your love and support has meant everything to me. I’ll always carry that with me.”
The former “RHOP” star hinted in various interviews around the time of her departure that she would be open to joining “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” However, that has not come to pass so far.
