Sia has finally addressed the financial terms of her high-profile divorce, and she is clearly displeased.
The singer’s comments come shortly after public records revealed the five-figure monthly commitment she is required to make for her young son’s care.
Sia and her estranged husband, Daniel Bernad, welcomed a child in 2024, but the singer filed for divorce a year later.
Sia Addresses The Financial Costs Of Her Divorce
On Tuesday, Sia took to X to break her silence regarding the court-ordered $40K+ monthly child support payments she must provide to her estranged husband, Bernad.
Describing herself as a “sober working mom trying to buy peace,” the 50-year-old musician expressed her frustration with the situation, specifically noting that she remains the primary caregiver for their son.
Because she is currently the sole breadwinner for the family, she explained that she is obligated to pay what she described as California’s “incredibly high” support fees.
Reflecting on the emotional toll of the past twelve months, the “Chandelier” singer wrote, “This has been a horrific year, but it taught me how to navigate incredibly difficult situations, prioritize my family, and not absorb other people’s negativity. ‘To err is human, to forgive is divine.’”
The former couple got married in 2022, but the singer filed for divorce from Bernad in 2025, just one year after they welcomed their son into the world, per People Magazine.
The Singer Will Also Cover Tuition Fees And Medical Costs For Her Child

Sia’s vulnerable message comes shortly after The Blast reported that under the new agreement filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Sia is required to pay Bernad $42,500 every month to support their son, Somersault Wonder Bernad.
These payments began on April 1 and are scheduled to continue until the child reaches adulthood, potentially until age 19 if he is still in high school.
The financial burden on the musician goes beyond the monthly cash payments, as the singer must also cover private school tuition, extracurricular activities, and medical costs not covered by insurance.
To protect her son’s long-term interests, she is also mandated to maintain a $5 million life insurance policy or a trust. The pair will also share joint legal custody and follow a specific physical custody schedule for holidays.
The Birth Of Sia’s Third Child Remained A Secret Until The Divorce Filings

The finalization of these substantial support payments serves as a resolution to a legal process that first brought the existence of her youngest child to light.
When Sia filed for divorce from Bernad in March 2025, the court documents unexpectedly revealed that she had quietly welcomed her third child, Somersault, nearly a year earlier.
Born in 2024, the boy was the first child the couple shared, joining Sia’s two older sons, whom she had adopted in 2019.
The revelation of the baby’s birth coincided with the singer’s decision to end her two-year marriage due to irreconcilable differences. In her original filing, Sia sought both legal and physical custody of her son and specifically requested that the court deny any spousal support to Bernad.
Sia Was Spotted On A Romantic Outing With Harry Jowsey

Not long after the birth of Sia’s third child was revealed, the “Elastic Heart” singer surprised the public by appearing back in the dating pool with reality TV star Harry Jowsey. The 28-year-old was spotted on a romantic outing with the songwriter in Los Angeles.
According to The Blast, the pair was seen enjoying a dinner date at Ca Del Sole, where onlookers noted their clear connection and public displays of affection.
For the evening, Sia chose a simple yet stylish look, wearing a black long dress and leopard-print boots, while Jowsey opted for an olive green shirt and brown pants.
Sia Previously Opened Up About Her Mental Health Struggles

The transition into a new love life follows a long history of the singer overcoming deep emotional challenges behind the scenes. Long before her current romance or the legal fallout with Bernad, Sia faced a difficult recovery following her first divorce from filmmaker Erik Anders Lang.
In a candid conversation with Zane Lowe, she revealed that the end of that marriage caused a severe, three-year struggle with depression that initially brought her life and career to a standstill, per The Blast.
During this “dark time,” the singer admitted she was so overwhelmed that she remained in bed for three years. It was only through a gradual process that she began writing music again, starting with small ideas that eventually gained enough momentum to form her album, “Reasonable Woman.”
