“Sometimes when a story comes out that’s not directly from me, things can get a little blown out of proportion, so I just wanted to speak to my fans directly tonight because I love you so much,” Grande shared in a video circulating on social media.

She stressed that the decision was neither sudden nor reactionary. “The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It was something that I have decided. A plan that I had quietly made a long time ago. It was a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place. And I want you to know that many things can be true at the same time,” she added.

Her remarks followed reports from The Blast that she planned to reduce public appearances after completing her London residency and wrapping up the current tour.

Ariana Grande also addressed one of the biggest assumptions surrounding the news, that online criticism or public scrutiny had pushed her toward taking time away.

According to the Grammy Award winner, that couldn’t be further from reality. She revealed, “I heard that my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me, but I just have to say that could not be more the far opposite. This is not what that is.”

“And I just want to be very, very clear, multiple things can be true at the same time,” she said, explaining that boundaries needed to be set and that people sometimes needed a break, while insisting the project “can be and will continue to be the greatest experience of my professional and creative life.”

“And I wanted you to hear that from me,” she said, explaining that she wanted fans to know her truth because she loved them and that the tour had been “the most healing, beautiful, corrective, magnificent, special experience of my life.”

A statement released to PEOPLE after the initial announcement echoed those sentiments, noting that Grande was looking forward to completing the tour “on a high note, both healthily and happily” before enjoying “a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”

The statement also emphasized that the tour had been “a beautiful experience for her” and that she “loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”

Rather than signaling a retreat from entertainment altogether, Ariana Grande’s planned break follows one of the busiest stretches of her professional life.

Over the last two years, she has balanced a successful music comeback with a major return to acting. 

She starred in “Wicked,” earning an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Glinda, and has since completed work on “Wicked: For Good.”

Her music career has been equally active, with the release of “Eternal Sunshine” in 2024 followed by “Petal” last month. 

Meanwhile, her next project is already on the horizon, as she is set to appear in “Focker-in-Law,” which arrives in theaters on November 25.

Alongside the announcement that she’ll take a break after the Eternal Sunshine Tour, it was confirmed that she has withdrawn from the upcoming West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George,” where she had been set to star alongside her “Wicked” co-star Jonathan Bailey. 

Rather than criticizing the move, the production’s team publicly backed Grande’s decision. “Following this evening’s announcement from Ariana Grande’s team, we can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George,” the producers said in a statement shared on X. 

“We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support,” they concluded. 

The production is expected to move forward with new casting announcements at a later date.
