In “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” the “Nashville” actress described being offered pills by a member of her team during her rise to fame, later connecting that experience to the addiction struggles that followed. 

According to InStyle, she wrote that the pills became “the gateway drug that ushered me toward the good of pharmaceuticals and the downfall of addiction.”

However, Vogel says she has serious doubts about that account. “I have heard this before, and I know who her publicist was,” the 70-year-old told the Daily Mail, adding,  “Her publicist was not perfect, but I never knew anything about her doing that.”

Vogel stressed that she remained heavily involved in Panettiere’s career at the time and found the allegation surprising. According to her, her daughter never personally discussed the alleged pills with her.

“She never said that to me, but she told others that that’s what happened,” Vogel claimed.

Long before the debate over the pills allegation, Hayden Panettiere was already questioning the emotional foundation of her success.

One of her favorite examples involved a television pilot table read in California. According to Vogel, producers suddenly realized the young actress couldn’t yet read the script and panicked, stating, “Oh my God, oh my God! I just realized Hayden can’t read. How’s she going to do this?”

However, Vogel wasn’t concerned. “I just looked at the producer. I said, ‘Oh, we’ve got this,’ because we had studied it and she had memorized it,” she told the outlet.

When Panettiere flawlessly delivered the material, Vogel said the production team was stunned and “dumbfounded.”

As The Blast reported, the gathering brought together several of her former co-stars, including Masi Oka, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Santiago Cabrera, and others, while Zachary Quinto participated remotely.
