Jennifer Nettles is opening up about her experience attending Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s highly anticipated wedding, revealing that she never expected to find herself among the thousands of guests celebrating one of the biggest celebrity unions in recent memory.
The Sugarland frontwoman recently reflected on the couple’s star-studded ceremony at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, describing the event as both beautiful and deeply meaningful. For Nettles, who has known Swift for years and previously collaborated with the pop superstar, the opportunity to witness such a milestone firsthand was something she won’t soon forget.
Jennifer Nettles Says Attending The Wedding Was ‘Super Special’

Speaking to PEOPLE at the opening night of her off-Broadway musical “Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo” on July 10, Nettles shared how honored she felt to be included in the celebration.
“To be a part of even a small part of their story for me was super special because, obviously, these are two people who are at the absolute top of their industry, the top of their game, the top of their craft, the top of their artistry,” Nettles said. “It’s such an important time in their lives. To be able to witness that very special moment, it’s beautiful.”
Swift and Kelce’s wedding reportedly drew around 1,000 guests to Madison Square Garden, with celebrities, athletes, music industry figures, and longtime friends gathering to celebrate the couple’s relationship. The ceremony included several emotional moments, including Swift and Kelce each reading their vows from gold books while surrounded by family and loved ones.
The Invitation Came As A Surprise

Despite her long-standing friendship and professional connection with Swift, Nettles admitted she was shocked to receive an invitation. The country music star previously teamed up with Swift on Sugarland’s 2018 song “Babe,” and the pair have publicly supported one another for years. Still, Nettles said she had little idea what was happening behind the scenes leading up to the wedding.
“It all surprised me, because of course, no one knew anything,” she explained. “I guess people had, there were leaks here and there where people were guessing, but no one knew for sure where we were going until much closer to the time.”
Nettles Has Been Rooting For Swift’s Happiness For Years

Nettles’ comments carry additional significance because she isn’t simply another celebrity attendee. The singer has been publicly supportive of Swift and Kelce’s relationship since its early stages and has long spoken highly of the Grammy winner both personally and professionally.
In February 2024, as Swift and Kelce’s romance continued dominating headlines, Nettles told PEOPLE that she wanted nothing but happiness for the singer. “Taylor is such a lovely human being, and I want her to find love just like everybody else,” Nettles said at the time. “I am invested in that for her.”
More than a year later, Nettles found herself witnessing Swift’s love story firsthand.
Jennifer Nettles Makes Bold Claim About Taylor Swift’s Legacy

While reflecting on the wedding, Nettles also offered high praise for Swift’s accomplishments, calling her one of the defining artists of the modern era.
“I’m so proud to have been even a little part of her story,” Nettles said. “Obviously, throughout her history, she and I have worked together before, and I have such an admiration for her and what she has done.”
The praise didn’t stop there. “As a songwriter, you can’t touch her,” Nettles added. “She’s the biggest artist of all time, really of our generation.”
Taylor Swift And Travis Kelce’s Wedding Was Packed With Personal Touches

While Nettles was one of roughly 1,000 guests in attendance, Swift and Kelce made sure their wedding remained deeply personal despite its massive scale.
The couple wore custom Christian Dior Haute Couture looks designed by Jonathan Anderson, who worked closely with both Swift and Kelce on their wedding-day attire. According to a statement from Swift’s representative, the bride’s gown marked Anderson’s first couture wedding dress created for a world-renowned celebrity. The newlyweds completed their looks with custom Christian Louboutin shoes, while Swift accessorized with Cartier jewelry.
Rather than following tradition with a large wedding party, the couple opted to keep things focused on family. Swift’s younger brother, Austin Swift, served as her Man of Honor, while Kelce’s brother, retired NFL star Jason Kelce, stood beside him as Best Man.
After the couple exchanged vows and were officially pronounced husband and wife, fans gathered outside Madison Square Garden were greeted with a celebratory message displayed across the venue’s iconic jumbotrons: “JUST&T MARRIED!”
