The cast of “Love Island” season 8 has officially exited the villa, and some of them didn’t receive a warm welcome back to social media. Following the conclusion of the season, the final four contestants, Carl Schmidt and Aniya Harvey, Sincere Rhea and Melanie Moreno, Zach Georgiou and Kayda Bosse, and Bryce Dettloff and Trinity Tatum, have been adjusting to life in the real world. While some have been greeted with messages of support from brands and even millions of followers, others, like Georgiou, have been subjected to hate comments and incessant trolling. The criticism was enough for season 8 winner Tatum to speak on his behalf, urging fans to pull back.

Trinity Tatum Defends Zach Georgiou From Online Hate Following Intense Criticism

“Coming out the villa one I want to say I’m very blessed and appreciative of the love & support everyone has given me,” Tatum posted to her Instagram earlier this week. “With that being said I wanna say the hate & ignorant comments some of you guys are doing regarding zach is absolutely not okay and needs to stop.”

Tatum went on to call the hate comments directed toward Georgiou “disheartening” and reminded the viewers that the cast are “people just like everyone else.” The 22-year-old told the viewers that, despite what they saw on the Peacock reality series, they all genuinely love one another. She finished by saying that Georgiou is “one of the most amazing people I’ve met, so please have some empathy.”

Others Show Support To Georgiou Following The Conclusion Of ‘Love Island’ Season 8

The remaining contestants reposted Tatum’s message, while Georgiou’s brother, Charlie, who appeared on “Love Island” season 7, also wrote about the backlash on his Instagram.

“TikTok has banned Zach’s account because everyone is reporting it, wtf is wrong with people?” the 29-year-old shared. “The truth about the false narratives portrayed about his time there will be spoken on soon.”

Last week, Charlie also had to defend his brother after he began receiving backlash for asking to be exclusive with his partner, Bosse, without an official title.

“It’s a mature decision to be exclusively dating rather than label yourself boyfriend and girlfriend before you leave into the outside world,” Charlie said. “Being in the villa is a manufactured and completely surreal [environment] to the outside world.”

Fans Weren’t Pleased With Georgiou Throughout ‘Love Island’ Season 8

Georgiou was one of the original islanders on season 8, and from the beginning, he seemed to ruffle some watchers’ feathers. Clips of him seemingly encouraging Tatum’s boyfriend, Bryce Dettloff, to leave her have resurfaced on X, while over on Reddit, other netizens have criticized him for some of his “passive aggressive” actions toward Bosse.

“I don’t like Zach. And idc what this sub or Trinity or anyone else says, that’s not changing lol. That being said, I am moving on with my life lol,” someone wrote, while another added, “Exactly. He was always the first person to speak up and talk sh-t in the villa. Now we’re in the real world; he’s mute, and the girls have to talk for him? He wouldn’t have done the same for Trinity. Let’s be so fr.”

Another user posted, “Like I don’t like him, and I don’t feel bad commenting about it here or on my own socials. Imo that’s kinda what you open yourself up to when you go on international television. That said, anybody commenting on his social media or sending him nasty DMs is WIERD AS H-LL.”

A few others came to his defense, though, as one shared, “No hate any islander received is ever necessary. If you don’t like them just don’t engage with them after the show.”

This isn’t the first time “Love Island” cast members have dealt with criticism, and it likely won’t be the last. According to a previous report from The Blast, the show’s host, Ariana Madix, offered advice for how cast members should set up their social media to combat some negative comments they may receive in the real world.

“I also think the people running their social media pages need to be on top of blocking, deleting, and setting limits on words etc. on their pages,” she said. “They shouldn’t see any of that when they get their phones back.”

It’s almost as if Peacock was expecting this to happen, given that in May 2026, days before the premiere, the show’s official Instagram posted a statement reminding watchers to “keep it kind … and positive.”

“The Villa runs on good vibes, and so does this community,” a spokesperson wrote, per Deadline. “We love seeing your reactions, opinions, and debates, but everyone deserves to feel safe and respected.”

They finished: “This is a space for fun, not negativity – so keep it kind, keep it positive, and remember: this is LOVE Island.”
