Millie Bobby Brown has pulled back the curtain on a traumatic experience she had.
The “Stranger Things” actress revealed that she was left dealing with anxiety for months after the scary ordeal. Healing came afterward, but not via the therapy route, leaving her with an unforgettable calm feeling.
Millie Bobby Brown has been vocal about her struggles with mental health over the years. She previously stressed the toll that growing up in the industry and social media had taken on her.
Millie Bobby Brown Dealt With Anxiety For Three Months

Behind the lights, cameras, and action, Brown is only human and also has her fair share of struggles. The iconic actress revealed a time in her life when she struggled with anxiety attacks that lasted for three months.
The anxiety affected her willingness and ability to step out in public comfortably. She shared that the trigger for the attacks was a traumatizing experience of being chased by people for 20 minutes while she was out in public.
“It was a really traumatizing 20 minutes. It was very intense, very scary. I feel like I shut down, and I shut down for three months. In that moment, something switched in my mind,” Brown said on a July 13 episode of the “On Purpose With Jay Shetty” podcast.
The ‘Enola Holmes’ Star Found Her Healing Miles Away From Home

Brown traveled across the globe before she could get healing and overcome her prolonged anxiety. She and her husband, Jake Bongiovi, took a planned trip to Japan to celebrate his birthday, coincidentally while she was at the heightened state of her anxiety.
“I went to Japan, not thinking it would be some spiritual journey,” Brown explained on the podcast, adding, “When I got there, I still really felt anxious. Sometimes we’d go to a restaurant, and I’d say to my husband, ‘I can’t go in. We need to go back.”
She then praised her husband for being understanding before going on to detail her healing experience. The movie star met a Japanese gentleman during their visit to a retreat inhabited by monks in Kyoto who suggested meditation. Brown describes him as having a calming presence, adding that he saw right through her.
“We meditated in this garden for five minutes. I meditated with 50 people. It was not just us; it was a bunch of tourists like us. And it was amazing, and I will never forget the feeling,” the 22-year-old disclosed.
Millie Bobby Brown Revealed The Negative Effects Of The Media On Her Mental Health
Brown admitted her battle with anxiety and mental health on a public platform nearly three years ago. During her acceptance speech at Glamour’s 2023 Women of the Year Awards Event in NYC, the TV personality shared how her mental health had been affected over the years.
She detailed that growing up in the industry had a role to play, and being a subject of public scrutiny did not help matters. Brown explained that oftentimes she felt alone in her feelings, like no one could resonate with what she was going through.
“The influence of social media and the press had a negative effect on my mental health, and anxiety is still a huge battle I’m dealing with today,” Brown disclosed. Speaking further, she noted that she does not feel alone fighting her mental health battles, thanks to the support of her family and friends.
PEOPLE reported that the actress uses her platform to help other young people and advocate for child actors going through similar ordeals. She acknowledged that social media can be detrimental and that the importance of mental health cannot be overemphasized.
The End Of ‘Stranger Things’ Was An Emotional Rollercoaster For The Emmy Nominee
Brown was on the Netflix horror series, which ran on air for almost a decade, but after the cameras stopped rolling, the iconic actress was left with a surge of emotions.
Spending most of her formative years on set while building friendships, childhood memories, and relationships with other members of the cast was not an easy part to say goodbye to.
The TV star revealed in an interview at the time that saying goodbye to people who had become like her second family left her with overwhelming sadness. “It was very hard for me. I would not have expected that coming off of the show,” she said.
The Blast shared that Brown fell into “a slight depression” as she tried to process her feelings. As a result, she reached out to her other co-stars to ensure they were still going to keep in touch despite the huge change in their schedules.
The 22-year-old actress also shared that she apologized if she hurt anyone during their time together on the show. In her words, “I was like, ‘I’m sorry if I ever upset you,’ and was just trying to mend anything. ‘It’s been 10 years, and I really want to be friends. You’re my sibling.'”
Millie Bobby Brown Shared Major Life Changes In The Past Year

Brown and Bongiovi tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in May 2024. A year later, the movie personality revealed that she had officially changed her name, taking on her husband’s surname. She shared this during a chat with her “Stranger Things” co-star, Noah Schnapp, who was asked if he knew her real name.
“It’s Millie Bonnie Brown,” Schnapp said as his first guess, then corrected himself to say “Millie Bonnie Brown Bongiovi.” Amid laughs, the actress clarified that she had dropped her maiden surname, saying, “Drop the Brown. It’s just Millie Bonnie Bongiovi.”
Besides the name change, The Blast reported that the lovebirds also expanded their family about a year after their nuptials. The “Enola Holmes” star announced on social media that they welcomed a daughter via adoption. Little details are known about their daughter, as the pair have opted to keep that part of their life private.
