Speaking exclusively with The Blast, Bell admitted that the question tends to make her laugh because explaining her career is not quite as simple as giving someone a conventional job title.

“I always laugh when people ask me what I do for a living because it’s one of those questions I never know how to answer without turning it into a whole conversation,” Bell tells The Blast.

“Social media is such a big part of my life, but there are so many different sides to what I do, so sometimes I’d rather just dodge the question completely,” she continued.

Rather than attempting to squeeze her career into a brief explanation, Ayla Bell found a much funnier way to address the question online.

“That’s why the ‘Quiet on the Creek’ trend was perfect for me — it was funny, it fit the moment, and honestly, sometimes it’s better to just keep people guessing,” she tells The Blast.

The sound also happens to fit Bell’s joke almost perfectly.

“Quiet on the Creek” began as an offhand remark from Saucy Santana, who recalled during a TikTok Live that people had to remain quiet while fishing to avoid scaring away the fish.

The phrase eventually took on a life of its own online, becoming a playful way of telling people to keep something private, mind their business or simply move in silence.

Santana ultimately turned the viral moment into a song, while stars including Lizzo, Monica and Damon Wayans have also put their own spins on the trend.

Bell’s version, however, turned the phrase into an answer for anyone curious about how she describes her increasingly unconventional career.
