Sydney Sweeney is once again at the center of controversy, but this time, the backlash is coming from multiple directions at once.

As the latest season of  “Euphoria” pushes boundaries with its most explicit storyline yet, criticism has intensified around her character, Cassie, especially after shocking scenes involving OnlyFans and roleplay sparked outrage online.

Now, the conversation has taken another turn, with a co-star publicly questioning the storyline, adding even more pressure to an already turbulent moment in Sweeney’s career.

Sydney Sweeney’s portrayal of Cassie in “Euphoria” has sparked strong reactions, but the latest criticism has come from someone who knows the show firsthand.

Co-star Chloe Cherry, who plays Faye Valentine, spoke out about Cassie’s new storyline, which sees her character entering the world of OnlyFans.

Cherry did not hold back when discussing the direction, saying it felt “crazy as f-ck” that someone like Cassie would choose that path.

From her perspective, the storyline didn’t reflect reality, especially given Cassie’s background and lifestyle within the show.

Recall that Cassie is portrayed as someone who comes from a relatively stable, middle-class suburban background, giving her a level of social and economic privilege compared to other characters.

She is also popular, attractive, and widely desired, which places her in a socially advantageous position at school.

The controversy surrounding Sydney Sweeney’s character centers on Cassie’s decision to explore sex work, including explicit scenes that have pushed the boundaries of the show even further.

Cherry pushed back on the idea, arguing that the motivation behind sex work is often misunderstood.

“The economy is horrible, that’s why people are turning to it,” she said per the Daily Mail, emphasizing that financial struggles, not choice, are what drive many into that space.

She also described the rise of platforms like OnlyFans as something society may later question, adding, “I really think OnlyFans is like a crazy, weird phenomenon in the 2020s we’ll look back on and be very confused by.”

Her perspective is shaped by her own past, having previously worked in the adult film industry before transitioning into mainstream acting.

That experience appears to influence her view that Cassie’s storyline lacked realism, especially given the character’s privileged position.

Sweeney’s performance in the latest season has also drawn criticism from viewers, with many reacting strongly to how far the show has gone.

The third season has already been labeled controversial due to its highly sexualized content, particularly involving female characters.

One of the most talked-about moments features Cassie in a provocative scenario that left audiences divided.

The backlash intensified after a scene involving infancy roleplay sparked outrage, with commentator Megyn Kelly calling it “sexualizing infancy.”

Reacting to a teaser showing Cassie filming OnlyFans content while dressed as a baby, Kelly said per The Blast, “She’s dressed as a baby… she’s sucking on a binkie… and her legs are completely spread,” before adding, “This is sexualizing infancy.”

Beyond “Euphoria,” Sydney Sweeney is also dealing with challenges in her broader career.

The Blast reported that her planned appearance in “The Devil Wears Prada 2” was ultimately removed from the final cut, despite filming a scene alongside Emily Blunt’s character.

The decision was reportedly made because the scene “did not work structurally,” though insiders noted that the team was still “grateful for her participation.”

The timing of the cut has raised eyebrows, as it comes during a period when Sweeney has been at the center of multiple controversies.

She has also faced criticism tied to her public image, including being labeled a “MAGA Barbie” following discussions about her political affiliations.

Her registration as a Republican and past social media attention surrounding her family’s political views have added another layer to the scrutiny she faces.

Sweeney has previously addressed the political controversy surrounding her, particularly after photos from her mother’s birthday party sparked debate online.

The images showed guests wearing themed hats and shirts, leading to widespread assumptions about her beliefs.

Responding at the time, she wrote, “You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my mom’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions.”

The actress later admitted the situation felt out of control, telling GQ, “Honestly I feel like nothing I say can help the conversation. It’s been turning into a wildfire and nothing I can say will take it back to the correct track.”

Despite the criticism, Sweeney has also received support from conservative figures, including Donald Trump, who praised one of her campaigns, saying, “Oh, now I love her ad.” He added, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”
