Taylor Swift is reportedly at risk of losing control of some of her hit songs following a major business move in the music industry.

A new publishing deal involving her longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback has raised questions about the future use of some songs connected to the pop star’s catalog.

The developments come as Taylor Swift prepares to tie the knot to NFL star Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden.

Taylor Swift’s music catalog is back in the spotlight following a major publishing deal involving longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback.

The acclaimed songwriting duo, along with their Wolf Cousins collective, recently entered a partnership with investment firm HarbourView Equity Partners, sparking questions about whether the arrangement could impact some of Swift’s most recognizable songs.

Entertainment attorney Bradfield Biggers told Page Six that the transaction does not appear to affect Swift’s ownership of her master recordings. However, depending on the exact rights included in the deal, HarbourView could gain influence over certain uses of compositions connected to Martin, Shellback, and other Wolf Cousins writers.

According to Biggers, this could become relevant in situations where permission is required for both a song’s recording and its underlying composition, such as film and television placements, advertising campaigns, social media projects, and other licensing opportunities.

Among the Swift tracks reportedly linked to the catalog acquisition are “Style” from her 2014 album “1989” and “…Ready for It?” from 2017’s “Reputation.” The deal does not reportedly cover every Swift song associated with Wolf Cousins.

While Biggers stressed that HarbourView should not be viewed as part of Swift’s inner business circle, he noted that by “acquiring interests in songs that are closely tied to Swift’s catalog and cultural legacy, HarbourView is now economically connected to an important part of her ecosystem.”

As Swift’s influence and commercial value continue to grow, the songs included in the acquisition could become increasingly valuable assets.

Sources cited by Variety estimated the agreement was worth a low nine-figure sum, although HarbourView has not publicly disclosed financial details.

In a statement, HarbourView CEO Sherrese Clarke described Martin and Shellback as some of the most influential hitmakers in modern music, adding that Wolf Cousins has “built an extraordinary creative ecosystem spanning generations and genres.” He added: “We are proud to partner with them and help steward the legacy of this remarkable catalog.”

Founded in the 2010s by Martin and Shellback, Wolf Cousins includes a roster of prominent songwriters and producers, including Ilya Salmanzadeh, Oscar Holter, Tove Lo, and Ludvig Söderberg. The catalog reportedly features major hits recorded by artists such as Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Imagine Dragons, Ellie Goulding, Tove Lo, and DNCE.

The development comes years after Swift’s highly publicized battle over ownership of her early recordings.

Her first six studio albums were originally controlled by Big Machine Records before the label was sold to Scooter Braun in 2019. The “Shake It Off” artist publicly opposed the transaction, saying she was not given a fair opportunity to purchase her masters.

After Braun later sold those recordings to Shamrock Capital, Swift launched her “Taylor’s Version” re-recording project in an effort to regain control of her work.

In May 2025, the singer, who is said to be now worth $2 billion, announced that she had successfully reacquired ownership of her masters, calling the moment an emotional milestone in her career.

“I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found that this is really happening,” she said at the time. “I really get to say those words. All of the music I’ve ever made … now belongs… to me.”

Meanwhile, Swift recently took time to honor one of her country music influences, Alan Jackson, during his farewell concert in Nashville.

In a pre-recorded video played during Jackson’s “Last Call: One More for the Road — The Finale” show on June 27, the mega popstar thanked the singer for his decades of songwriting and performances, praising the impact his music has had on generations of fans.

The pop superstar also singled out Jackson’s hit song “Drive” as her personal favorite, explaining that its vivid storytelling and personal details left a lasting impression on her as a young artist.

Swift said Jackson’s willingness to share pieces of his life through music helped shape her understanding of songwriting and the artist-fan connection.

She continued, “I appreciate you so much for the ways that you have treated me and other artists and writers with just such support and encouragement over the years, and I’m so excited for you doing this show, and just appreciate you so much. Love you!”

Amid reports about her music catalog, Swift seems to have more pressing matters at hand: her wedding to Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, Travis Kelce.

The power couple, who have been dating for almost three years now, will reportedly tie the knot in New York City at Madison Square Garden.

According to news outlets, Swift and Kelce have already made moves to secure the venue for July 2 through July 4, with their wedding date expected to be on July 3.

While it has yet to be confirmed how the ceremony will play out at such a massive location, reports claim the pair might have a more secret and intimate wedding for themselves, before going on to celebrate their nuptials at MSG.

Swift and Kelce have also filed for permits to shut down streets around the garden, which has caused them to face heavy backlash from people online and small business owners.
