Nearly two decades after “The Devil Wears Prada” became a cultural phenomenon, delivering iconic performances, unforgettable fashion, and endlessly quotable moments, the long-awaited sequel is officially on its way. “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is set to hit theaters on May 1, bringing fans back into the high-stakes world of fashion journalism. Now, Anne Hathaway is opening up about what it’s really like stepping back into Andy Sachs’ Chanel heels, this time with more experience, perspective, and a whole new outlook on the journey.
Anne Hathaway Calls ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ Reunion ‘Joyful’

Anne Hathaway is stepping back into one of her most iconic roles, and she’s not taking the moment for granted. Reuniting with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” has been an emotional full-circle experience for the actress.
“It was just beautiful. It was joyful,” Hathaway told PEOPLE Magazine. “Sometimes you’re like, ‘I wish I could go back to that moment knowing what I know now.’ So for me this was the chance to actually be with the same people again, step back into that world, but with a little bit more perspective.”
Despite her decades-long success, Hathaway admits the grind hasn’t slowed down. “You’re always out on a ledge. You fall off, and you just kind of climb back up,” she said. “But I love it. I love the risk. I think the most I can hope for is, if I’m lucky enough to continue working, to eventually look back and be like, ‘Oh, I did it.’ ”
Even now, she says there’s a “perpetual hustle” that comes with staying relevant in the industry.
Hathaway Credits Husband For Keeping Her Grounded

Behind the scenes, Hathaway says her biggest support system is her husband, Adam Shulman, along with their two sons, Jonathan and Jack. “He supports me completely,” she said. “The way he stepped up, I mean, in every possible way, he’s the most extraordinary person I’ve ever met.”
“I’m so lucky that he’s my partner that I spend my life with. If I didn’t know that before this past year, I think I really know it now because with absolutely everything he’s just, he’s on it. He holds it down,” she added. “It’s one thing to have dreams. It’s another thing to have somebody who helps you achieve them. I absolutely would not be able to have achieved what I’ve done without my husband.”
Anne Hathaway Opens Up About Andy Sachs’ Style Evolution

As for stepping back into Andy Sachs’ world, Hathaway says fans can expect a modernized take, especially when it comes to fashion. “Back in 2006 [costume designer] Patricia Field iconically said, ‘It’s not a documentary. Don’t ask how we got all these clothes. Don’t ask about the budget. Don’t think that hard. Just have a good time,'” she recalled.
But this time around, the character’s wardrobe has a story behind it. “Andy learned a thing or two while she was at Runway…,” Hathaway said. “She’s been shopping consignment luxury for 20 years and actually has a very cool wardrobe.”
Looking Back At The Original

Reflecting on the original “The Devil Wears Prada,” Hathaway admitted it wasn’t all easy, but it was unforgettable. “I loved making the first. I know I was stressed and anxious and all those things,” she said. “But it’s one of the most hilarious experiences ever because of the people I was with.”
She also had nothing but praise for her costars. “Emily Blunt is such a dream of a human being. Stanley is so funny and quick, and Meryl… she’s someone I admire. Someone who defines how it’s done… She’s unbelievable,” the actress noted.
What Anne Hathaway Loves Off The Clock

When she does get a rare moment of downtime, Hathaway says she keeps things simple. “I still get the paper delivered every day, and I love sitting down with it,” she shared. “I’d cuddle with our puppy… I’d probably take time to call the people I love.”
“I’d love to have breakfast with a friend… go for a walk, maybe do a little window-shopping, maybe go to a museum. I’m very meandering on my days off,” the actress added.
