Plaza broke her silence about the bun in her oven during an upcoming episode of the “Smartless” podcast. She told the hosts, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes that she was expecting her first child with Abbott, leaving them pleasantly surprised.

“Well, there’s a baby inside of me,” Plaza revealed, per the Daily Mail, reiterating her statement when the hosts responded in disbelief. “No, I said there’s a baby inside of me right now,” she added before sharing how she got the news.

According to Plaza, it was “a big day” for her and her dog, who needed an ultrasound on her stomach. She decided to kill two birds with one stone by visiting her doctor at the same time, and she got an ultrasound before the interview, only to find “there is a baby in there.”

When the podcast hosts asked if Plaza was “excited” to experience motherhood for the first time, she confirmed that she had always wanted to be a mom. “I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know? It just seems so interesting, that whole thing,” she said.

The podcast episode, presumably filmed before Plaza’s pregnancy made waves, is scheduled to drop on April 20. Before the sneak peek aired, the outlet reported that Plaza was seen flaunting her baby bump for the first time in New York City.

She was photographed walking her dog in the Big Apple, dressed casually in a navy blue coat, a brown top, and white trousers. The picture came a day before she and her partner, Abbott, were seen putting on a cozy display at the Broadway revival of “Death of a Salesman.”

News of Plaza’s pregnancy broke days before she was spotted with her baby bump, with The Blast reporting that an insider had shared the big news. They claimed the actress and her beau were touched by the news, saying:

According to the insider, Plaza and Abbott felt “very blessed” by the baby’s conception; however, they did not reveal how far along the actress was. Instead, the insider shared that the baby is due to arrive in the fall.

As alleged by the insider, Plaza and Abbott were pleasantly surprised by the pregnancy after an emotional year. The year in question was presumably 2025, the period Plaza was in mourning following the death of her estranged husband.

The Blast covered the story, reporting in August 2025 that Plaza had received an outpouring of love and support after returning to the spotlight. She raved about playing controversial Hollywood figure, Heidi Fleiss, who reportedly operated a Los Angeles-based prostitution ring, in a biopic.

The role came months after Baena’s tragic passing on January 3, 2025. Plaza noted that she was excited to return to work, gushing about her excitement for the biopic as it marked her first time playing “a real-life person.” Additionally, she had been gunning for the chance to portray Fleiss’s life.

Two months after Baena’s tragic passing in January, The Blast shared a shocking detail about his marriage to Plaza. In March 2025, a Medical Examiner’s report revealed that Baena and Plaza had been living separately since September 2024, with the actress relocating to New York City.

The report also ruled Baena’s death a suicide, matching previous police statements. Law enforcement records revealed that Plaza had confirmed her separation from Baena in a conversation with authorities, claiming he had once made concerning remarks in October 2024 and was undergoing therapy.

Plaza noted that Baena had no history of suicide attempts in the past, and she last heard from him the same morning he died. He reportedly called her the night before his death and texted her the morning he took his life. No illicit substances or alcohol were found in Baena’s system.
