Barbie Ferreira is back in the spotlight, but not for the reasons many might expect. While her recent photo shoot has fans buzzing over her noticeable weight loss, the former “Euphoria” star is pushing back hard against the conversation surrounding her body. In a candid new interview, Barbie Ferreira opens up about years of scrutiny, the pressure placed on women in Hollywood, and why even compliments can feel like a “trap.”
Barbie Ferreira Shows Off Transformation But Refuses To Feed ‘Losing Game’ Body Talk

The actress posed in satin bras for Bustle, putting her transformation on full display. But while the images quickly sparked chatter online, Ferreira made it clear she’s not interested in fueling that narrative.
“It’s hard because my whole family fluctuates in weight,” she said. “I started modeling at 16, and I’ve looked different every year for over a decade. It’s very trendy right now to talk about women’s bodies, which is exactly why I personally don’t talk about it.”
She didn’t hold back when addressing the bigger issue, adding, “There is so much discourse around what I look like and what other women look like all the time. As women, we are in a losing game.”
Ferreira Says Body Scrutiny Started At 14
Ferreira emphasized that her changing appearance is nothing new and shouldn’t be surprising. “If we’re too small or too big, we lose,” she said. “We are human beings who fluctuate. I gain weight, I lose weight; that’s just my life. I didn’t realize people would be so hyper-fixated on it.”
She also reflected on how early the scrutiny began, recalling, “People talk about weight gain from my Tumblr days. I was 14 years old in my mother’s room!”
Barbie Ferreira Says ‘Activist’ Label Was Unintentional

Looking back, Ferreira said she was unintentionally pushed into a label she didn’t fully understand at the time. “I didn’t even know what activism meant,” she explained. “I’d put on a bikini for a campaign, everyone would get mad, and suddenly I was an activist. I’m 17 years old thinking, ‘Sure, I’ll be an activist if that’s what you want.’ But I don’t think that’s what true activism is. Real activism is dedicating your life to a cause.”
Even praise hasn’t come without complications for Ferreira, who admitted that positive feedback about her appearance can carry its own pressure. “That’s why unhealthy eating patterns continue. You want people to think you look good,” she said. “It’s funny how people never say ‘you look great’ when someone gains weight. I honestly believe many people would look great if they gained some weight!”
Still, she says the focus rarely shifts away from her body. “But the comments are constant,” she said. “I could be in character as someone else or just being myself, and the focus is always on my body. It feels like my cross to bear.”
Ferreira Says She ‘Hermits’ To Cope With Stress

When the pressure builds, Ferreira leans into a quieter lifestyle. “My response to stress is to stay home. I will hermit, and that’s OK,” she shared. Rather than chasing the spotlight, she finds comfort in simple traditions. “I’ll be at the Renaissance Faire, though. I go every year,” she said. “I do a little skirt and a corset and sit at the joust. I love wholesome fun because I grew up too fast.”
Ferreira also spoke about the pressure to tone down personality in the industry, pointing to Jennifer Lawrence as an example. “Women are often told to be smaller in this job,” she said. “I’m an expressive theater kid. I try to show my personality in contained spots, like on podcasts with people I actually like.”
Though she is not returning for Season 3 of “Euphoria,” Ferreira says she’s still a fan. “I haven’t watched it yet, but I am going to see it. I want to see where the characters go and I love the girls,” she said. “I don’t think [any of the actors know] what’s going on. I think they only get their specific sides of the script.”
Barbie Ferreira Juggles Two Films

Ferreira is also balancing two new film releases, “Faces of Death” and “Mile End Kicks.” “The fact that they are out the same week is really funny,” she said. “I’m trying to juggle both, but they are so different, I don’t get confused.”
When it comes to relationships, she’s not chasing Hollywood headlines. “I only know how to date normal-ish people,” she said. “To impress me, you need a real personality and real life. I hate PR relationships. I could never do that.”
