Turning points come in different ways, and for Daniel Radcliffe, it came with the birth of his son, which pushed him to prioritize a healthy lifestyle.
The former child star, who welcomed a baby boy in 2023 with his girlfriend Erin Darke, has been open about the realities of fatherhood and the personal changes that followed.
From wanting to shield his son from his onscreen persona to making intentional lifestyle choices for his well-being, Radcliffe has embraced the positive impact of becoming a father.
Daniel Radcliffe Reveals How His Son Inspired A Life-Changing Decision

In a recent interview, Radcliffe reflected on his past smoking habit and the turning point that pushed him to quit. According to him, thinking about his future with his child became the motivation he had never found before.
“I smoked for 20 years pretty heavily, and I was never even thinking about quitting,” Radcliffe told Vulture. “And then shortly after having my son, the intrusive thoughts of my own death really helped as an incentive to quit.”
Radcliffe added that he found support in Allen Carr’s “The Easy Way to Quit Smoking,” which did a “Jedi mind trick” on him. He recalled being skeptical that the book would work when he read a line suggesting that quitting would be easy and wouldn’t require willpower, but the book eventually did help him.
The Broadway star went on to explain the shift parenting did to him while gushing about his son’s ability to live in the present without thinking of the future. He added that, for parents, it’s the opposite after having kids. While they can both be present in the moment with their kids, their minds can’t help but think about the future.
“You start worrying about things that are not going to be an actual worry for 20 years,” the 36-year-old shared. “You start worrying about the rest of their lives.”
Daniel Radcliffe Replaced Old Drinking Addiction With Fitness Obsession

This is not the first time Radcliffe shared he had given up the habit and taken on new, healthy ones. Earlier in the month, he revealed he had stopped smoking cigarettes and alcohol and embraced a fitness routine.
As The Blast reported, the “Horn” actor said his newfound relationship with the gym was intense, featuring heavy workouts like weights, circuit training, and cardio.
He then shared little insight into how his day typically begins by 5:30 am because of his child, adding that by 6:30, the boy is awake and calls for him.
Daniel Radcliffe Is Not Keen On Introducing His Son To The Fact He Played ‘Harry Potter’

As he settles into fatherhood, Radcliffe has shared that he enjoys the fact that, to his son, he’s just “dad” and not an actor who starred in the famous franchise.
As The Blast reported, Radcliffe recounted being relieved when his two-year-old did not recognize him on a DVD of the movie. While he’s not trying to hide it forever, he wants his boy to discover the books or films naturally when he’s ready and not force him into it.
Radcliffe even joked that if his kid does get into the series, he’d prefer him to watch the upcoming HBO version instead.
How The ‘Guns Akimbo’ Actor Felt Being A First-Time Parent

Radcliffe speaking about fatherhood has become familiar since he welcomed his child. Not long after becoming a dad, he opened up about what the experience has been like.
As The Blast reported at that time, he described it as “great, crazy, and intense,” adding that it was a “real privilege” to spend meaningful time with his child.
He also acknowledged that parenting would shape his professional decisions moving forward. While he doesn’t plan to retire, he intends to reduce his workload and be more selective with projects so he can prioritize family life.
Jamie Lee Curtis Seemingly Nudged Daniel Radcliffe To His Iconic Role

Aside from fatherhood, a reflective moment recently highlighted how Jamie Lee Curtis predicted Radcliffe’s breakthrough role.
Per The Blast, during a March 3 episode of the “Today Show,” Radcliffe and Jamie Lee Curtis had a reunion where they recalled filming “The Tailor of Panama” in 2001.
Curtis revealed that she noticed his resemblance to the boy on the cover of J.K. Rowling’s books and remarked on it, seemingly planting ideas before Radcliffe had even auditioned.
