Ellen DeGeneres is reportedly turning to hypnotherapy as she navigates a new phase in her career and personal life with Portia de Rossi.
While some insiders question the approach, the famous comedian is said to view it as a way to restore balance for her.
The update comes as Ellen DeGeneres prepares a return to the “Finding Nemo” franchise and continues adjusting to life after stepping away from her long-running talk show.
Ellen DeGeneres Embraces Hypnotherapy As She Navigates New Career Phase

According to a source, the former talk show host and her wife have embraced hypnosis as a wellness tool they both trust.
DeGeneres has experimented with it in the past, famously undergoing a session on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” back in 2006 in an effort to quit smoking, and it appears she’s continued to see value in it.
Still, some observers are skeptical about the effectiveness of such treatments, especially given their cost.
“People can’t help but wonder if [Ellen] and Portia are being taken for a ride with this stuff,” one source told a news outlet. “It’s not like you can hypnotize yourself. You have to hire a specialist to come to your home and do this to you, and that isn’t cheap.”
The Comedian Seeks Hypnotherapy As She Feels ‘Pretty Beat Up In Life’ Amid Career Setbacks

Financially, DeGeneres and her wife are more than equipped to maintain the practice of hypnotherapy, with estimates placing their combined wealth in the hundreds of millions.
Beyond hypnotherapy, they’re also known for investing heavily in home renovation projects, another passion that comes with a hefty price tag.
According to one insider, DeGeneres has been feeling down and sees hypnosis as a way to regain balance and energy.
“Truth is, she’s feeling pretty beat up in life right now and needs a boost, which she believes hypnosis is providing,” an insider told the National Enquirer. “But in this situation, her open-mindedness about dubious techniques like hypnosis could blow up in her face.”
“She’s vulnerable right now, and that creates an opportunity for people to take advantage of her and Portia, unfortunately!” the source added.
Ellen DeGeneres Set For Return To Finding Nemo Universe As Dory Reboot Gains Attention

Despite these concerns, DeGeneres remains active professionally. She is set to reprise her beloved role as Dory in a new short film from Pixar set in the world of “Finding Nemo.”
While plot details and release plans are still under wraps, the project is already generating interest.
DeGeneres first brought the forgetful blue tang to life in “Finding Nemo,” which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
She later reprised the role in “Finding Dory,” a massive box office success that earned over $1 billion globally.
Beyond the films, she has continued voicing Dory across various Disney projects, including theme park attractions and short-form content.
The Comedian Reflects On Controversy, Comeback, And ‘Be Kind’ Backlash In Candid Stand-Up Return

DeGeneres’s latest project marks her first acting role since the 2021 mini-series “Pixar Popcorn,” where she once again voiced Dory. That same year, she also made an appearance as herself in Kevin Hart’s “True Story.”
Since wrapping “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2022, DeGeneres has been open about stepping away from the spotlight, particularly after controversy surrounding allegations of a toxic workplace. She addressed the situation directly in her 2024 Netflix special, “Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval.”
In the set, she used humor to reflect on her time away from Hollywood, joking about taking up gardening and raising chickens before quipping that she had essentially been “kicked out of show business.” She also poked fun at the backlash she received, referencing headlines that questioned her public “be kind” persona.
“The Be Kind Girl wasn’t kind.’ That was the headline,” she said, per E! News. “Here’s the problem: I’m a comedian who got a talk show, and I ended the show every day by saying, ‘Be kind to one another.’ Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f-ck yourselves,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind.”
Ellen DeGeneres Hints At Final On-Screen Chapter, Splits Time Between U.K. And U.S. After Political Move

Before releasing her 2024 comedy special, “Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval,” DeGeneres suggested it could be her final on-screen appearance.
During a July 2024 show in California, she told fans they likely wouldn’t see her again after the special. That same year, she relocated to the U.K. with her wife, Portia de Rossi.
In July 2025, DeGeneres revealed that their move was influenced by Donald Trump’s election to a second term, recalling how they decided to stay in the U.K. after hearing the news.
“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in.’ And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here,'” she said.
Her return to the “Finding Nemo” universe comes months after she briefly came back to the U.S. In February, it was reported that she and de Rossi purchased a new home in California following their earlier move abroad.
However, according to People Magazine, sources say the couple doesn’t plan to fully resettle, instead dividing their time between the U.K. and Montecito.
