Eva Longoria misses a few things about the US, but her heart remains in Europe!
The sensational actress revealed in November 2024 that she and her family had moved out of the country to split their time between Mexico and Spain.
Although the revelation coincided with Donald Trump’s return to power, Eva Longoria repeatedly denied fleeing the country because of politics. Instead, there were several reasons for her family’s relocation.
Eva Longoria Opens Up About Missing The US After Returning For A New Project

In a new interview, Longoria addressed her return to the US for the movie, “The Fifth Wheel,” her second project as a director. She explained that her family’s return to Los Angeles made her nostalgic for two reasons, saying:
“I miss my family, my Texas family…. [and] good Mexican food. That’s what I miss. That’s what’s not in Europe, is good Mexican food.”
Longoria, who welcomed son Santiago with her husband José Bastón, told PEOPLE that living in L.A. has been a fun experience for her child. “He’s loved it. He’s been so excited to have classmates and friends and birthday parties,” she said about the boy, who enrolled in school for the first time last year.
The TV Personality’s Family May Return To Spain

Although Longoria noted that her son was thriving during his time in L.A., his heart remains in Spain. She explained that their extended family could be found in Mexico and Spain, and they loved being surrounded by their loved ones rather than apart.
“I also think he’s happiest when he’s with family. So I think we take it day by day, year by year,” Longoria said. She added that Santiago wasn’t the only one in love with Spain, as she similarly enjoyed her time away from the US.
One of the best parts about living in Spain for Longoria was the country’s lunch culture. “I don’t miss the working lunch…You always do the working lunch: ‘I’m going to go grab a sandwich. I’ll be right back,'” she quipped, noting people in Spain enjoyed having long meals without rushing.
The ‘Desperate Housewives’ Star’s Relocation Wasn’t A Drastic Decision

Another reason Longoria loved life in Spain was the lack of traffic. She explained that the area where her family lived in the country was free of traffic, so she frequently walked. Longoria first revealed her ties to Mexico and Spain in November 2014 during an interview.
In her cover story for Marie Claire’s “Age Issue,” Longoria shared that her family had been splitting their time between Spain and Mexico for the last few years before eventually relocating to Spain. She explained that the reasons for their time away from the country stemmed from change.
According to Longoria, she noticed the changes in L.A. before the pandemic made the city’s vibe feel worse. “Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to sh-t on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now,” she declared.
The US Felt Like A ‘Dystopian Country’ To The Hollywood Veteran

Longoria stressed that she was lucky, unlike most Americans, to be able to escape “this dystopian country.” She noted that she was saddened by Trump’s return to power, claiming that if he kept his promises, “[America] is going to be a scary place.”
Although Longoria had actively campaigned for Kamala Harris and shut down Trump’s re-election efforts, she did not relocate because he won the elections. She cleared the air days after her cover story broke, during a call into The View: Behind the Table podcast.
During the November 15, 2024, episode, Longoria told pal Ana Navarro that she “didn’t leave because of the political environment.” She explained that her work also took her to Europe, and she found the reports speculating that she fled the country because of Trump very “divisive.”
Eva Longoria Once Raved About The Benefits Of Being A Mom In Her 40s

A year after revealing her family’s relocation to Europe, Longoria opened up about her life as a mother. The Blast covered the story in November 2025, reporting that the actress had claimed having a child at 43 was the “perfect timing” for her.
Longoria explained that she had more knowledge and patience to be a mom in her 40s. After spending forty years focused on herself, she felt “blessed” to have a child later in life. On that note, she prioritized her family over work.
According to Longoria, she would never take roles or projects that took her far away from home. If she said yes to something that interfered with her family time, then it must be something she truly loved and people she genuinely wanted to work with.
