Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale has opened up about the seemingly difficult reality of co-parenting with his ex-wife, Gwen Stefani, likening it to a “two-lane highway” that doesn’t merge.

The English musician stated that his only priority now is not to raise “jerks,” as he went on to admit that kids this age face so much pressure.

Meanwhile, Gwen Stefani recently said that she’d never “experienced active love” until she met her husband, Blake Shelton, whom she married in 2021, years after her divorce from Rossdale.

Gavin Rossdale has shared that he and his ex-wife, Gwen Stefani, struggle to find common ground in the way they raise their children.

The former couple got married in September 2002 and went on to enjoy 13 years of marriage before calling it quits in 2015.

They have three sons together, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo, but in a recent interview with Fox News Digital, the ace guitarist compared co-parenting them with Stefani to a “two-lane highway” that doesn’t merge.

“It’s a very, it is an interesting kind of… ” It’s a two-lane highway, you know, but they don’t ever seem to merge, which is fine,” Rossdale said.

He then went further to explain that what he meant by “two-lane highway” is just each of them doing their best to raise their kids and ensure they turn out well.

“Probably doing the best she can, and I’m doing the best I can. And the kids are growing up, so I’m a proud proponent of the system. It’s fine,” he said.

Gavin Rossdale Explained That He Tries To Be A Role Model To His And Gwen Stefani’s Kids

For Rossdale, the distinct, parallel methods he and his ex-wife adopt when it comes to raising their kids aren’t as important as ensuring he doesn’t raise “jerks.”

Speaking with the news outlet, he painted a picture of what he wants them to be like while adding that he tries to be a role model to them and teaches them how to show up in other people’s lives.

“Making them likable. I think that if you’ve got kids that are unlikable, they’ve got a tough life ahead, you know. Life is hard enough without being a jerk, without being kind of aware of other people, mindful of other people, considerate of other people, empathetic,” he began.

He added, “And so all those things that I try to do my best in my life to be… Just try to show by example with my kids, consistent friends, consistent people around, and a sort of a steady approach to life.”

The 60-year-old singer has often taken to social media to show off just how proud he is to be a father, sharing pictures of himself with his boys.

In one of such posts celebrating Father’s Day, he wished himself a happy Father’s Day, while adding that he’s “really lucky” to be a father to them, stating that it’s a “wild journey where love and support and patience wins all the way.”

However, he admitted to Fox News Digital that it hasn’t been easy on their part, as kids in this generation experience enormous pressure.

“I feel connected to the pressure that young people have in terms of what to do. And if you go to college, what the hell are you gonna do in college, and then how are you going to pay off your student loans, and how are you going to go into the workplace? And it just seems very, very hard for people. Very, very hard. And I’m not sure if it’s getting easier,” he said.

Despite being married to Rossdale for more than a decade, the “Just A Girl” singer told Jeff Cavins during a recent conversation on the prayer and meditation app, Hallow, that she had never “experienced active love” before she met Shelton.

“I also experienced active love, I think, for the first time when I met my husband because I had never really received active love,” she said, per Fox News Digital.

“And I don’t think I knew how to even receive it. Like, it was just like I would be so uncomfortable when someone was sacrificing or actively trying to love me through their actions by maybe sacrificing something,” Stefani added.
