Margaret Cho Credits GLP-1 Medications For Taming Her Eating Disorder

Cho got candid on the March 17 episode of “We’re Out of Time” podcast with Richard Taite about how much benefit using the weight loss drug has done for her. She admitted that she had a binge eating disorder, and the medications have been a lifesaver for her. In her words:
“I think that they are just perfect for any kind of impulse control, you know, that we’re sort of looking at … people really criticize it, but I love them. I’m really grateful for them.”
Taite also revealed that his constant craving for smoking cigarettes has also reduced, and on some days, he barely finishes two sticks. Although Cho did not state specifically the kinds of GLP-1 medication she takes, she noted that she did start the journey to stop the constant itching to be fed, and it was less about losing weight.
The actress continued on the podcast, saying her intense craving for food did not make any sense because she was not eating out of hunger or a need to satiate. They both agreed that the lifestyle of eating till the mouth is sore is a destructive habit, and they could not thank those medications enough for giving them an escape.
Inside The Comedian’s Dark Past Of Sexual Abuse And Pain

Cho was sexually molested by a family friend from the ages of 5 to 12. Describing it as having a long-term relationship with her abuse, Cho confessed to Billboard in 2015 that she did not understand the act and was too young to know.
She recalled enduring a lot because she was alone and vulnerable, and that cycle of rape continued throughout her teenage years. Cho noted that she did not know how to stop it, as it was also an era where young girls were being heavily sexualized. “For me, I think I had been sexually abused so much in my life that it was hard for me to let go of anger, forgive, or understand what happened,” Cho revealed.
She credited music for giving her an outlet to work through her pain, as it is often very hard to talk about being the survivor of sexual abuse and rape. Cho added that she also grew up in an era where it was unsafe for women to be, because men had so much control and entitlement.
Margaret Cho Revealed An Intriguing Part Of Her Culture On Rape

The comedian, who got into therapy at the age of 27 and relied on cracking jokes as a way to heal from her past, revealed at the time that her abuser was alive and the identity is not hidden from her family. She revealed that sexual abuse and molestation are excusable crimes in her traditional Korean family, which believes people should not make a fuss about things that have happened to them in the past.
“They don’t really want to talk about it, because that would make it real somehow. I think Asian culture often is in denial about such things. Like, if they don’t talk about it, it doesn’t exist. So it makes me unwelcome in some ways,” she explained. Cho continued that at the end of the day, all she has is ownership of her suffering, which keeps her up at night, thinking about ways to seek justice and save herself through it.
The star also revealed that she dropped out of high school due to the attitude of her schoolmates when they found out she had been raped and implied she deserved it because she was unattractive. Her teacher, who also attempted to help get her through the experience by teaching her how to journal, was subsequently murdered, further fueling her resolve to leave such a cruel environment.
The ‘Fire Island’ Actress Spoke About The Impact Of Roe v. Wade On Equality

In 2022, The Blast shared that the actress put her activist hat on and voiced her concerns over the fate of equality and women’s rights in the United States after a Supreme Court draft opinion seemingly set on overturning Roe v. Wade leaked.
She pronounced that if the court found a way to overturn Roe v. Wade, then it would get easier to overturn so many things queer people define as equality. According to her, the journey towards equality would be pushed back by miles if the right-wing ideology actually takes over the country.
She described the move to overturn the judgment as disgusting, adding that it has been years of methodically stripping away people’s rights and the Constitution while recording tiny, continual victories along the way. The comedian defined the move as leaning back into a patriarchal heteronormative kind of government that tries to keep people’s habits in a box.
Margaret Cho On Turning Down Offer To Appear On Donald Trump’s ‘The Apprentice’

On March 11 2026, The Blast reported that Cho revealed receiving multiple invitations from Donald Trump for her to appear on his then hit TV show. Trump’s show featured aspiring entrepreneurs pitching ideas for a role in his company; it ruled the airwaves years before he ventured into politics.
Cho stated that Trump was very interested in her participating, but she never took signing up for the show seriously, especially when she visited the set to support her pal, Cyndi Lauper, who was competing at the time.
She recalled feeling so overwhelmed by the energy during her visit, and she really did not want ever to put herself in that position, making it easy for her to turn down the requests. These days, the actress stated that her instinct was right not to appear on the show because Trump is currently operating a “terrible administration” in America.
