Ricky Martin is living the words: the show must go on!

The musician’s European tour faced a brief hiatus after a fan released tear gas into the air during the concert. Despite the disruption, he went on to deliver a stellar performance after authorities jumped into action, and the situation was quickly contained.

Ricky Martin has had his good days on stage, making lasting memories before crowds at his shows. Three years ago, the singer shared a heartwarming, surprising moment with his twin sons, Matteo and Valentino, during a performance in Switzaland.

What Happened At Ricky Martin’s Show In Montenegro?

Martin’s show got disrupted on Thursday, May 21, in Europe, and thankfully, he is “safe.” His publicist, Róndine Alcalá, released a statement in English and Spanish detailing what went down and how the issue was quickly resolved without further complications.

Alcalá stated that the artist was kicking off the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour in Montenegro when  “an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage,” during the ongoing concert.

The individual’s actions caused an  “abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance,” according to the publicist’s statement shared on Instagram.

Alcalá assured followers and fans that the artist was unscathed, writing in the caption, “Ricky Martin and his team are safe” before adding that they were” grateful for the support and concern received following tonight’s events in Montenegro.”

The Singer Did Not Want To Leave Fans Hanging

Immediately, the tear gas was released, and Martin and his team went off stage as a precautionary measure while authorities swung into action to ensure the safety of attendees. 

“Security personnel and local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance,” Alcalá detailed in her statement. 

After the authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and that the attendees could safely return to the arena, Martin paid no heed to his team’s advice to halt his performance.

His rep stated that members of the singer’s team urged him to end  the show, but the entertainer decided to resume the concert “in order to fulfill his commitment to fans.” 

The “Livin’ La Vida Loca” hitmaker’s rep confirmed that this event does not put a pin in his other upcoming performances.

The Ricky Martin Live tour will continue as scheduled with upcoming performances across Europe and additional international dates. 

“Wow, what a scary and sad moment,” a commenter noted, “OMG this is incredibly scary for Ricky & the entire team. I hope they arrest the party responsible for this,” another added.

The ‘Vuelve’ Singer Previously Had A Beautiful On Stage Moment

During Martin’s electrifying performance at the Piazza Grande in Locarno, Switzerland, in 2023, he was taken aback when his twin sons, Matteo and Valentino, joined him on stage.

This beautiful moment happened while the singer was in the process of getting divorced from his partner, Jean Yosef.

The teenagers joined their father, who was beaming with smiles as he saw them, to entertain the audience with their dance moves.

Fans were more than delighted to witness the heartwarming moment between the father and sons, even declaring the video of the epic moment shared online as “The best video of Ricky’s entire career.”

The Blast reported that commenters did not hold back their thrill, just as the live concertgoers erupted with excitement in the stands. Martin welcomed Matteo and Valentino as a single father in 2008 with the help of a surrogate.

After saying vows to Yosef in 2017, the former lovers expanded their family with a daughter, Lucia, and a son, Renn, before their divorce in 2023.

The Musician Faced Legal Troubles

About four years ago, Martin’s nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez Martin, raised claims of sexual abuse, incest, and domestic violence against the Puerto Rican superstar.

The lawsuit was filed in Puerto Rico, and Martin was looking at up to 50 years behind bars if he was found guilty.

The entertainer denied the claims, stating that Dennis had a mental illness, and ultimately, the case was dismissed. In a countersuit, Martin sued his nephew for $20 million, stating that Dennis tried to “assassinate” his character.

Furthermore, he alleged that he had been “persecuted, besieged, harassed, stalked and extorted by a maladjusted person,” that is, his nephew. 

The Blast shared that the hitmaker also claimed in the docs that a month following the dismissed restraining order, his nephew started sending him messages via Instagram, threatening to “assassinate his reputation and integrity.” 

In addition to these claims, Martin noted that he lost multiple multi-million-dollar deals due to his nephew’s restraining order and false allegations. 

Ricky Martin Began His Healing Process After The Charges Were Dismissed

Dennis admitted under oath that he had never been sexually assaulted by Martin, leading to the dismissal of the restraining order in July 2022. Shortly after, Martin released a statement sharing his truth and declaring he was ready to move past the allegations.

The “Canción Bonita” singer began saying, “I’m in front of the cameras today because I really need to talk in order for me to start my healing process.” 

He added that during the weeks the case was ongoing, he was unable to defend himself because he was obligated by law to remain silent on the matter until he appeared before a judge.

The father of four expressed that the whole situation was “painful” and “devastating” for him, his friends, and family, stressing that he does not wish anyone to fall into a similar fate as shared by The Blast.

“To the person who was claiming this nonsense, I wish him the best. And I wish he finds the help so he can start a new life filled with love and truth and joy, and he doesn’t hurt anybody else,” Martin concluded his address.
