The Royal Family is reportedly less popular with the younger generation than it used to be.

According to new reports, the British monarchy has lost a significant number of its younger supporters following headline-making controversies.

The list includes Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s fall from grace due to his controversial relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Prince Harry’s ongoing estrangement from his family has also contributed to the Royal Family’s decline in popularity.

The monarchy’s decline in popularity became apparent after a poll conducted by Ipsos, a polling firm. They launched a survey in March 2026 using a random probability online panel of 1,062 adults to assess public sentiment toward the British Royal Family.

The results revealed that younger people in Britain no longer supported the monarchy like they used to, with their withering support seemingly stemming from the Royal Family’s recent controversies. Prince Harry and his older brother, Prince William, have allegedly not spoken since Queen Elizabeth’s 2022 funeral.

Additionally, Andrew’s Epstein controversy and his February arrest may have contributed to the lack of support. The Daily Mail reported that 27% of those surveyed by Ipsos said they would prefer to live in a republic rather than a monarchy.

The new poll results are reportedly the lowest scores the monarchy has received in the 33 years Ipsos has been running polls on the Royal Family. In 1993, the monarchy received a 69 percent approval rating, which skyrocketed to 80 percent in 2012 during Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee.

The approval rating dropped to 60 percent in 2022 following the Queen’s passing. The years that followed saw Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, relocating to California amid their estrangement from the Royal Family, with rumors of bad blood and a broken brotherly bond.

The younger populace seems to believe the monarchy is no longer needed, with Gideon Skinner, the senior director of UK Political Research at Ipsos, warning the Royal Family to pay attention to the declining favorability. In Skinner’s words:

“To turn this trend around will require convincing young people in particular that the monarchy still has an important, relevant role to play in the future of the country.”

Despite the drop in approval ratings for the monarchy, King Charles and Prince William remain fan favorites. Six in 10 believed Charles was doing a great job as King, while 71 percent echoed similar sentiments about Prince William.

The duo’s high favorability ratings were revealed days after The Blast reported claims that the monarch was interested in reconciliation. Royal commentator Phil Dampier believed Charles was open to mending bridges with Harry and would love to spend time with his grandkids.

Dampier suspected the King would happily arrange a meeting with Harry and his kids if the family chose to travel to the UK in July. However, the royal commentator theorized that Charles would prefer a private meeting to a public setting.

Harry, Meghan, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are expected to return to the UK in July. The Blast shared that their speculated return would mark the family’s first visit in four years since the Sussexes relocated to America.

Mark Dolan reacted to the news with criticism, slamming the family’s return to the UK as a “desperate” money-making scheme. Dolan argued that Harry and Meghan were only visiting as a family because their brand in the US was failing.

“We know that Harry’s speaking engagements have dried up. He used to get $1 million per speech, and now it’s $50k. The As Ever brand is struggling,” Dolan alleged. He claimed they probably hoped to boost their brand by returning to the UK rather than seeking reconciliation.

Speculation about the Sussexes’ alleged financial troubles continued, with claims of a new home. The Blast reported that royal commentator and columnist Maureen Callahan revealed that there were rumors of Harry and Meghan in a bad spot.

Financial worries allegedly plagued the couple to the point that they considered downsizing from their sprawling Montecito property to a more affordable home. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly found it hard to cope with the expenses of their current home.

According to Callahan, the controversial couple was struggling to generate income because they could no longer monetize their relationship with the Royal Family. “The information supply has been choked off,” the royal commentator added.
