Misty Copeland, a ballet dancer and author, won the hearts of fans following her firm but classy rebuttal of Timothée Chalamet's comments. The Timothée Chalamet Reminded Of His Origin Amid Performing Arts Controversy first appeared on The Blast
Class is in session, and Timothée Chalamet better take some notes!
Celebrities continue to speak out against the “Dune” star’s controversial stance on performing arts, with a renowned ballerina recently schooling him on the origins of his success.
Misty Copeland, a ballet dancer and author, won fans’ hearts with her firm yet classy rebuttal to Timothée Chalamet’s “no one cares” about opera and ballet statement.
Timothée Chalamet Gets Schooled By ‘Marty Supreme’ Promoter
Copeland shared her thoughts on Chalamet’s controversial comments during a panel for Aveeno. A video detailing the moment was shared on TikTok, capturing the ballet dancer’s evident disappointment in the actor, who approached in 2025 to promote his movie.
“First, I have to say that it’s very interesting that he invited me to be a part of promoting ‘Marty Supreme’ with respect to my art form,” Copeland began, referencing the November 2025 Instagram post, in which she wore the movie’s branded jacket. A second image showed Copeland dancing ballet as a child, alongside the words “Dream Big.”
Copeland continued that it was important to acknowledge that opera and ballet had become performing arts that were not as popular or a part of pop culture as movies were. Nonetheless, their relevance and culture had not dwindled. She threw shade at Chalamet, saying:
“It’s often mistaken when something is popular that it’s more meaningful or more impactful.”
The Ballet Dancer Reminds The TV Personality Of His Origins
Copeland stressed that opera and ballet have endured for decades and will continue well into the future as more people build on the foundation of these performing arts. She added that it was important to her to raise awareness about the relevance of opera and ballet in “our communities and in our culture.”
The dancer called out Chalamet for not understanding the significance of performing arts in the movie industry, noting that opera and ballet are reflected everywhere. “I mean, he wouldn’t be an actor and have the opportunities he has as a movie star if it weren’t for opera and ballet,” Copeland declared.
She reiterated that performing arts remain relevant in the entertainment industry and “all of these mediums have a space and we shouldn’t be comparing them.” Copeland’s words sparked an outpouring of love and support from fans, who applauded her elegant response to Chalamet’s insensitive words.
Fans’ Disappointment In The Actor Grows Stronger

Calls for an apology and disappointment overflowed in the comments section, with one fan wondering why Chalamet hadn’t apologized yet. “This is getting bigger and bigger. Does he think it’s going away?” they asked. Another noted the sadness in Copeland’s voice, slamming Chalamet for hurting her.
“Ballet is an art form and a sport. He was completely out of line for that remark,” a fellow supporter wrote. A TikTok user agreed, stressing that the fact that performing arts are unpopular in the US did not mean the rest of the world did not appreciate opera and ballet.
The disapproving sentiments continued, with some fans claiming Copeland was more relevant than Chalamet. “I’ve seen Misty perform. I’ve never seen anything by little Timmy and don’t care to,” a fan declared. Another claimed they never heard of him until the controversy blew up.
The Actor Award Honoree’s Past Comments Further Fueled The Outrage

The appearance of a 2019 video further fueled fans’ disappointment in Chalamet. The Blast covered the story, reporting that a fan had shared the clip on TikTok, noting they took it in October 2019 while Chalamet was promoting his historical drama, “The King.”
The footage revealed Chalamet had always believed opera and ballet were “a dying art form.” The statement aligned with his recent take on the performing arts at a Variety-CNN event with actor Matthew McConaughey. The Blast shared that he had dismissed opera and ballet as irrelevant.
Chalamet said that he wouldn’t want to be a part of opera and ballet, where people would have to keep the art forms alive despite no one caring about them anymore. He also joked that if people were offended, he would probably lose “14 cents” in viewership.
Timothée Chalamet’s Controversy Is Allegedly Affecting His Relationship

The aftermath of Chalamet’s controversial comments allegedly extended to his relationship with Kylie Jenner. It was reported that sources claimed there was trouble in the lovebirds’ paradise due to social media outrage.
“The relationship is definitely feeling the strain. Timothée is under a lot of pressure right now, and it’s spilling into his personal life,” a source claimed. They added that Kylie felt she was unfairly being dragged into Chalamet’s mess but still chose to support him.
The source added that the couple was trying to work things out, but the tension was evident. These claims matched a separate insider’s allegations of a potential breakup. They claimed Chalamet was distancing himself from Kylie because he wanted to score an Oscar with a perfect candidate image.
