Although the actor’s sister, Pauline Chalamet, and Kylie seemed to exchange pleasantries fondly, eagle-eyed fans were quick to note that the former may have been cold towards her brother’s long-time partner.

In a now-viral video posted on Instagram, Timothée and his sister, Pauline, were spotted hugging and exchanging pleasantries before the ceremony began.

Jenner, who had already taken her seat, could be seen gushing at Pauline and gesturing for a hug from her. However, Pauline appeared hesitant before agreeing, causing Jenner to stand up.

Although it was a brief interaction, eagle-eyed fans could spot the awkwardness between Pauline and the reality star.

According to body language expert Susan Constantine, Timothée’s sister gave Kylie a distinct cold shoulder during their brief run-in at the 2026 Oscars.

When the Kylie Cosmetics founder stood up to excitedly offer a hug, Constantine described the actress’s demeanor as “impersonal” and “disingenuous,” noting a “nonverbal smug” in her physical reactions.

The expert pointed out that Pauline’s body language shifted away from Kylie almost immediately, characterizing the embrace as a “faux hug” that lacked genuine warmth.

“Pauline dismissed Kylie quickly. Kylie, while seated, was taken by surprise but showed genuine interest by making eye contact and brows raised,” the expert told Page Six.

While Pauline’s body language suggested awkwardness, the evening’s tension extended beyond the family introduction to Timothée’s own experience inside the ceremony.

Before losing the Best Actor trophy to Michael B. Jordan for his performance in “Sinners,” Timothée was caught on camera appearing to vent his frustrations. 

According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, the “Marty Supreme” star turned to Kylie and whispered, “I hate this,” as the pressure of the awards night weighed on him. Kylie reportedly attempted to soothe her boyfriend, replying, “We’re all right, OK?” in an effort to keep his spirits up, per The Blast. 

Despite his brief agreement, she seemed uncertain, following up with a hopeful, “I hope so.” Timothee also reportedly told Kylie that he would need a “big cuddle” later that night.

Sarah Tena, 32, alleged that she and Timothee had been involved in a private, non-exclusive relationship for several years prior to his public debut with Kylie.

“I see these things about him dating Kylie Jenner, and I was very confused about that. At first, I thought it was fake news, and then I was like, maybe it’s a PR thing. But now it looks like maybe they are together. I don’t know… It doesn’t add up,” she said, as reported by The Blast.

Despite being the long-time frontrunner for his performance in “Marty Supreme,” Chalamet ultimately lost the Best Actor trophy to a widely beloved Jordan. 

According to The Blast, reports from Hollywood voters indicate that while Chalamet’s talent is undeniable, his off-screen behavior got in the way.

Sources claimed that out of several Academy members he spoke with leading up to the ceremony, nearly all were turned off by what they described as an arrogant and difficult attitude.

“The more voters got to know him, the less they liked him. There’s no love lost for Timmy,” one insider shared.

In stark contrast, Jordan was praised by the same voters as being kind, polite, and a person everyone loves to work with.
