Billie Lourd is sharing some details about how her children continue to keep in touch with their late grandmother, Carrie Fisher.

Fisher passed away in 2016, and Lourd has since formed her own family with husband Austen Rydell. 

Over the years, Lourd has introduced her children to Fisher through her movies. Now, she is revealing another personal connection that allows them to feel close to the grandmother they never got to know.

By raising her children in the same home she grew up in, Lourd has discovered a way to keep her late mother nearby. The actress said the house is special to Fisher, and her children can feel their grandmother’s presence. 

“I’m still in the house! It’s the most incredible thing that I got to keep this house, because my mom and dad bought it together and I grew up there,” Lourd said in an interview with The Sunday Times.

She added that Fisher is still present all over the house, and she “gives my children another way to connect with their grandmother.

Lourd also puts “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Star Wars” movies on for them.

That bond has also permeated Lourd’s everyday family life, through one of the most familiar aspects of Fisher’s legacy.

According to PEOPLE Magazine, in honor of Star Wars Day last year, Lourd posted a snapshot of her kids watching their grandmother as Princess Leia in “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.”

Their film nights are particularly special as Lourd does not keep Fisher’s name in a separate file. Instead, she continues to introduce them to the work that made their grandmother known to generations of fans.

On the 9th anniversary of her mother’s passing, Lourd revisited some of the shocking moments that have made her feel more connected to Fisher than ever before, according to The Blast.

Lourd recalled memories of her daughter waking early, lying her head on her chest and saying “I love you, mama.” Lourd was so happy about the moment, but it also brought to mind how much she yearned to have Fisher there.

She often tells her daughter how much her “grandmomby” would have loved her. However, Lourd finds comfort in seeing her father spending time with her children, calling it one of the best things that has ever happened to her.

That connection to Fisher doesn’t just extend to family memory, but also the Princess Leia legacy.

According to The Blast, Fisher’s original Princess Leia dress from the first “Star Wars” film was put up for auction in 2023.

The costume, which was seen in the last throne room sequence of “Star Wars: A New Hope,” was found decades after production before being sent for eight months of professional cleaning and restoration. 

It was reportedly put up for almost $1 million at the auction, even with wine and food stains. However, it failed to sell after falling short of the seller’s minimum sale price. Nevertheless, all hope wasn’t lost as the top bidder could negotiate a private deal with the seller.

That connection to Fisher has also remained part of Lourd’s family life through her marriage to Austen Rydell and the family they have built together. Lourd began dating Rydell in 2016, the same year Fisher passed.

According to PEOPLE Magazine, the couple welcomed their first child, Kingston, in 2020 and their second child, Jackson, in December 2022.

Rydell has also been closely connected to Lourd’s family history. When he proposed, he used a diamond ring reset from a ring Lourd’s father originally used to propose to Fisher, giving their engagement a direct link to her parents’ story.

Lourd has continued honoring Fisher through important family milestones as well. At her 2022 wedding to Rydell, she paid tribute to her mother through her wedding dress, while the couple also brought their children into moments connected to Fisher’s legacy.
