“This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz recently opened up about why she began using a GLP-1 after years of being a self-proclaimed skeptic. During a new interview, the Netflix actress spoke candidly about her body and the struggles she’s faced after years of trying to lose weight. However, after having a thoughtful conversation with her friend, she decided it was time to finally give the drug a try.

Speaking with E! News, Metz told the outlet that she recently changed her mindset about GLP-1 and popular brands like Ozempic after years of doubts. “I was very skeptical of starting a GLP-1 for a very long time,” she said.

As she continued, Metz noted that she’s questioned the drug and its effectiveness for six years, stating that her worries really began around the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the reasons Metz stayed away from the drug is because she’s “very diligent” about what goes into her body. “I’m like, ‘Oh, I don’t know what that’s gonna be like,'” she said.

Metz had a change of heart, however, after speaking candidly with a friend who had done “very thorough” research about the drug. Following the conversation, Metz said she realized a GLP-1 “might be something I should look into.”

According to Metz, she’s been on diets for as long as she can remember. “And I know I can lose weight,” she said before saying that the GLP-1 helped with other challenges, such as quieting “food noise.”

On top of that, Metz struggled with the idea of using the drug for weight loss for several other reasons. “There’s so much shame around being in a bigger body, so just knowing that I wasn’t doing it purely for vanity’s sake, but because people are pressuring me, or I should, or shouldn’t, do that,” she said.

Metz’s newfound affinity for GLP-1s and similar weight-loss drugs led her to collab with Ro, the digital health company that also partners with Serena Williams. Elsewhere during her interview, Metz said that Ro has also been quite helpful with other challenges, such as inflammation.

“It’s helped with just overall health lab work and blood work,” she also said, “and just generally just an overall feeling of space and creativity that the food noise has quieted. It opens up just more ability to be present and for me to be more creative and to really spend my time with the show and not obsessing about food noise that I didn’t even know was a thing, which is crazy.”

Metz is just one of the celebrities who have opened up about using a GLP-1 for weight loss. As she reflected on her personal choice, she said she hoped that taking the leap would motivate others to overcome the mental hurdle as well.

“I hope that it really opens up conversation,” she said. “Because I think there are people who, not even with medication, but want to try things in their life, but are afraid of what people are going to say, and don’t do it, and perhaps don’t find the life that they want, or the joy that they want or deserve because we’re so transfixed on what people think about our choices.”

As she finished, Metz emphasized that she was a longtime skeptic turned believer. “I was like, ‘No, no, no, no, no.’ So, I hope it enlightens people to an option that might be right for them,” she said.

One celebrity who wasn’t a fan of Ozempic and GLP-1 shots, though, was Kris Jenner. According to The Blast, the momager and well-known reality TV star revealed in May 2026 that while she tried the drug when it first began making headlines, it made her sick and nauseous.

Kris, however, did find an alternative: a peptide injection. The 70-year-old said she began following that injection up with supplements, such as fish oils and omega-3s. As she continued, she called her new routine a “game changer.”
