The actress’ father, Eric Roberts, previously publicly weighed in on the state of their relationship as father and daughter over the years.

Emma Roberts got married to her boyfriend of three years, Cody John, on July 25 in the presence of their friends and families two years after he popped the question.

Emma Roberts’ Father Insists Outsiders Do Not Understand Their Relationship 

The actress’ father and Golden Globe nominee explained on the “Really Famous With Kara Myer Robinson” podcast that he would not describe his relationship with Emma as estrangement.

In the April interview, he clarified that only an outsider can see their dynamics as complicated due to their misunderstanding of the situation.

He described himself as a “wash rag” and “car wreck” of a dad during the actress’ formative years. Eric subsequently took full responsibility for his inability to make himself emotionally available for the actress.

Nevertheless, he affirmed that he will always look back at the sweet memory of him pacifying a grumpy infant Emma with a Happy Birthday song. In his words:

“She stopped screaming and tried to find my face with her little blind eyes. It was the most complete moment maybe I have ever had in my life. That something I did was recognized by a brand-new creature who had my DNA.”

He emphasized that watching his daughter try to find his face amid her tears was nothing short of magical and unforgettable.

The Actor Feels Nothing But Love Towards His Daughter’s Love Story

Eric, unfortunately, did not get to walk Emma down the aisle as she stepped into forever with the love of her life, bringing back reports that the tension between them may yet to be resolved. As stated by The Blast, Eric noted to US Weekly that his absence at the ceremony has not diminished the love he has for his daughter.

He insisted that it is perfectly wonderful for the actress to celebrate however she wants to with whomever she so pleases. Over the years, Emma and Eric have avoided being in the media over the nature of their shared profession.

As revealed by Eric, they have never discussed work since she was 9 years old, nor do they get photographed together in public, right from her days as a child actor. Emma also avoids talking about her father in interviews, nor does she post anything about him on social media.

However, Emma has constantly shown off her mother, Kelly Cunningham, on social media, talking lovingly about her in public, thus creating a sharp contrast in her conduct with her parents.

The actress’ wedding ceremony to Cody was an ode to her way of life — void of noise, private, and very personal to her. Hence, the nuptials were quietly held in Idaho with people closest to her.

Emma has previously admitted in an interview with Cosmopolitan that she does not like having her relationship constantly exist under the lens of public discussion. In her words:

“I never want to talk about relationships I’m in, or that are ending or have ended. It’s hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience.”

She also confessed that she sometimes gets frustrated at being unable to have a private moment with her close people without being infested with attention from the media. 

Emma has kept her relationship with Cody away from the spotlight, only sharing a few milestones with her fans on social media, like in 2022 when they became Instagram official.

The media personality did not shy away from sharing close looks at the huge rock with her Instagram dumps. For her wedding, the actress reportedly walked down the aisle in a Monique Lhuillier gown in her wedding to the actor.

The designer, in an Instagram post, described Emma’s dress as very retro-inspired, which was designed to capture a feeling of timeless romance through a modern lens. 

According to Monique, every detail, from the custom Vintage Rose hue to the hand-draped silk chiffon, delicate lacework and sculpted corsetry, was created to reflect Emma’s effortless spirit. Guests, including Julia, reportedly all watched on as the ceremony happened at Cody’s family estate.

Safe to say Emma met her match with Cody, who is equally an actor and has appeared in TV shows like “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” “In the Dark,” “The Rookie,” and “NCIS,” as well as in movies such as “Jaunt” and the short film “You.Matter.”

E! Online stated that the two reportedly met in 2022 through close friends in the industry, as Emma was immediately captured by Cody’s warm personality, having made her laugh countless times. 

The couple made their Instagram debut later that year in August 2022, with Cody sharing a black-and-white picture of them kissing on a boat. She equally showcased their relationship four months later in a series of images to celebrate the new year, including a picture of them holding hands on the set of “Space Cadet.”

Before her relationship and marriage to Cody, the actress was previously engaged to Evan Peters in an on-and-off relationship, which ultimately ended in 2019.
