The Oscar-winning actress surprised fans over the weekend when she publicly honored ex-husband Keith Urban on Father’s Day, marking the first time she has acknowledged him in such a personal way since their divorce was finalized earlier this year. 

The touching gesture came as Nicole also reflected on the fathers who have shaped her life and the family connections that continue to ground her.

Months after finalizing her divorce from Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman made an unexpected move that caught fans’ attention.

The actress took to her Instagram Stories on Father’s Day to celebrate the fathers who have played important roles in her life. 

Among the images she shared was a black-and-white throwback photo of the country music star carrying their daughters on his back when they were much younger.

“Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers,” Nicole wrote across the images. The post marked the first Father’s Day since the former couple officially ended their marriage in January. 

The pair tied the knot in 2006 and spent 19 years together before announcing their separation in September 2025. They share daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. 

Nicole Reflects On The Parents Who Shaped Her Life

Urban wasn’t the only father figure recognized in Nicole’s Kidman’s Father’s Day tribute.

The 59-year-old also honored her late father, Dr. Antony Kidman, by sharing a touching black-and-white image showing him carrying her as a child.

Nicole has frequently spoken about the deep bond she shared with both of her parents. Her father, a psychologist and biochemist, passed away in 2014 at the age of 75. 

The “Babygirl” star suffered another profound loss when her mother, Janelle Kidman, died in September 2024 at age 84. Their deaths continue to have a great impact on the Hollywood star.

While speaking with GQ in November 2024, Nicole revealed that grief still catches her off guard. “Life is, whew. It’s definitely a journey. And it hits you as you get older,” she said.

Rather than trying to avoid those emotions, Nicole said she chose  to fully experience them, noting, “If you’re in it and not numbing yourself to it. And I’m in it. Fully in it.”

During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in October 2025, she explained that being present for her children remains one of her most important responsibilities.

“My children [give me the] purpose of being their protector and their guide, promising them that I’m here and that, no matter what, there’s always a safe place to grow up in,” she said.

Nicole also revealed that simple but meaningful things continued to energize her. She said that “life, connection [and] people” are what keep her feeling “vibrant and energized.”

As The Blast reported, Urban surprised fans on Friday by publicly reaching out to his ex-wife on her 59th birthday. The singer shared a message on his Instagram Stories that read, “Happy birthday, Nicole Mary!!!!!!!!!!!!.”

While Kidman did not publicly respond to Urban’s message, she acknowledged her birthday by sharing a peaceful photo of herself surrounded by nature and expressing gratitude for the outpouring of love and well wishes she received from fans and friends. 

Their daughter, Sunday Rose, also honored her mother with a touching tribute, writing, “Happy birthday mumma. No one I adore more.” 

Keith Urban Flaunts Nicole Kidman Tattoos At ACM Awards Amid Divorce

Weeks before the shocking move, Urban sparked fresh conversation about his relationship with Nicole when he appeared at the ACM Awards with several tattoos dedicated to the Oscar-winning actress still on full display. 

As reported by The Blast, fans quickly noticed the ink tributes, including the large “Nicole” tattoo on his bicep and the “MARY” tattoo across his knuckles, which references Nicole’s middle name. 

Recall that the ACM Awards also hold special significance because Urban’s knuckle tattoo was first spotted at the event in 2021.

Despite the end of their marriage, Urban did not remove or cover any of the four tattoos he got in honor of Nicole over the years, including her initials “NMK” on his wrist and a “babygirl” tattoo on the back of his neck.
