Ray J Opens Up About Where He Stands With Brandy

Ray J appeared on iHeart’s “The Breakfast Club” in August 2026. While on the show, Charlamagne tha God noted how much “healthier” and “calmer” he seemed than before, with the host then asking if this was the reason Brandy had been open to reuniting with him.
He responded by detailing their recent encounter. According to him, “Shout out to B, we just connected in Atlanta.” Ray J went on to say that they spoke in the hotel lobby, as Brandy is currently in Atlanta filming a movie.
He continued, “We just actually low-key ran into each other in Atlanta.” After that, Charlagmagne asked Ray J why his sister is okay with being seen with him in public after previously wanting distance.
The dad of two stated, “I think some of the stuff I’ve been doing- I think that makes sense, especially with where she’s going, where she’s at, and kind of where we are with this kind of loud performative live content on the streams.”
He Discussed Missing Brandy’s Walk Of Fame Ceremony
Brandy received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 30, with her family in attendance. This included her mother, Sonja Norwood, her father, Willie Norwood, and her daughter, Sy’rai Smith. However, Ray J was noticeably absent for the occasion.
During his Breakfast Club interview, one of the show’s hosts noted his absence at the ceremony. When asked if he was hurt by not being included, he stated, “I was hurt by why I wasn’t, not that I wasn’t. I understood it.” Charlemagne then said, “It was you,” with the reality star agreeing.
He continued, “But I take full accountability for it, and it makes sense.”
Both Brandy And Ray J Have Been Vocal About Distance In Their Relationship

Brandy released a new number one New York Times best-selling memoir, “PHASES,” in March 2026. While promoting the book, the singer and actress spoke to Parade, revealing that she and Ray J hadn’t been as close as before.
She told the outlet, “There is distance right now. There are a few things that he’s been doing in the public eye that I don’t condone, and I just feel like loving him from afar right now is best for me and my peace.”
Still, regarding their bond, Brandy shared, “But my life with Ray and my connection with him is all throughout the book, and my love for him never wavers.” Before Brandy’s comments, Ray J opened up during a June 2024 appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, stating that, at the time, she no longer invited him to family events.
He stated, “It’s just [that] Brandy’s goals, since the beginning, have been totally different [from mine]. And there’s a lot of things that I’m involved in that just don’t [coincide with her brand].”
Ray J continued, “As much as you know that we’re all together, man, some things, I’ve gotta try to like [scale]. Lately, even certain events that I think they’ve been having, I haven’t got the invite, and I’m good with that, but I understand why. And I’m here, but I haven’t lately because a lot of the sh-t I’m doing, it’s just a little more left field. It’s a little more outrageous. A little louder, a little more dramatic. A tad bit distasteful at times.”
The ‘One Wish’ Singer Also Opened Up About What Led To The Issues With Brandy

TMZ interviewed Ray J in August 2026 as he was on the streets of New York City. The reporter noted their recent reunion, saying they seemed “better than ever.” He said, “I think we’ve always been better than ever. I think there’s times where you kind of show it and there’s times where you’re just super personal.”
Ray J went on to say that he’s “walking down a good path” and that his sister could see his positive changes. After that, he acknowledged that there are times when he “shouldn’t be around” because of his behavior. When asked what caused the distance in their relationship, Ray J claimed, “Just on a crashout campaign.”
Still, he says that he and Brandy spoke every day, even when they weren’t around one another as much.
The Reality Star Has An Upcoming Boxing Match
