The controversy surrounding Sydney Sweeney’s recent advertising campaign continues to grow, with tennis star Priscilla Hon now joining those speaking out.

Hon said that while Sweeney looked good in the ad, its message could harm young girls by reinforcing the idea that they should look a certain way.

Olympic gold medalist Ariarne Titmus and former U.S. gymnast Gracie Kramer have also recently slammed the ad.

Priscilla Hon Says Sydney Sweeney’s Ad Sends The Wrong Message To Girls

In an Instagram post, Hon weighed in on Sweeney’s latest sports ad, which features the actress appearing largely nude in a Novig commercial while using sports equipment to cover herself.

She first acknowledged that Sweeney looks “amazing” in the ad, then questioned how appearing that way could affect young girls in sports.

“Young girls already grow up feeling like they have to look a certain way. They’re constantly being shown what the ‘perfect’ body is supposed to look like, and sport should be one of the places that teaches them their bodies are about what they can DO, not how they look,” the athlete wrote.

She added, “We should be showing the next generation that being strong, talented, and capable is enough. They don’t need another reason to believe their body is what makes them valuable.”

Hon’s remarks follow similar criticism from Olympic gold medalist Ariarne Titmus and former U.S. gymnast Gracie Kramer about Sweeney’s provocative ad.

Titmus said she was infuriated by the commercial and questioned why Sweeney and Novig went ahead with it.

“How do we live in a world where monetizing a woman’s body and sexualizing women’s sport is still a thing?” Titmus wrote on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Kramer argued that the ad undermined progress in challenging the sexualization of female athletes.

“I’ve spent my entire life competing in a sport where female athletes have been oversexualized, reduced to our bodies, and forced to fight to be taken seriously for what we can actually do,” she wrote.

Sweeney’s provocative ad was for Novig, a sports prediction platform in which she is a stakeholder.

In the roughly one-minute commercial, the “Euphoria” actress appears nude or nearly nude while using sports equipment, including footballs, basketballs, and a tennis racket, to cover herself.

She also references several sports, including tennis, golf, baseball, and hockey. Throughout the ad, she repeatedly emphasizes that Novig is focused on sports.

“Think you know sports? Prove it. Novig is just sports. So they wanted to show just sports,” Sweeney said in one scene.

Following the initial criticism, Sweeney appeared unfazed by the controversy surrounding the ad.

As previously reported by The Blast, the “Euphoria” star shared a collection of images featuring some of the biggest names in sports who had previously posed nude or nearly nude in photo shoots.

The women featured in her post included Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe, and Caroline Wozniacki.

Sweeney didn’t leave out the men, adding Myles Garrett, Rob Gronkowski, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Jason Kelce, all of whom have participated in revealing sports-themed photo shoots over the years.

Sydney Sweeney’s Past Campaigns Have Also Stirred Controversy

In 2025, Sweeney starred in two controversial advertising campaigns that also drew attention online.

The first was her campaign for Dr. Squatch, which featured a soap bearing her name, purportedly made using water from her bath.

At the time, the campaign generated considerable controversy over its deliberately provocative concept.

Sweeney also drew criticism over American Eagle’s “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” campaign. It played on “jeans” and “genes,” with Sweeney discussing inherited traits and saying, “My jeans are blue.”

In that instance, critics argued that the wording and focus on her blonde hair and blue eyes evoked eugenics and ideas about genetic superiority.
