Tom Holland has never been afraid of a challenge, but his latest role may be his boldest yet.
The Hollywood star is reflecting on Christopher Nolan’s epic “The Odyssey,” a project that has changed far more than his résumé.
As he looks ahead, Tom Holland says the blockbuster experience has reshaped his outlook on life and the future.
Tom Holland Calls ‘The Odyssey’ A Career-Defining Turning Point

Tom Holland admitted that starring in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” feels like the beginning of an entirely new phase of his career. Taking on the role of Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, the actor described the opportunity as “a real pinch-me moment.”
The 30-year-old also reflected on the emotional weight of portraying a young man searching for a father he barely remembers, adding that the role may be his “last chance” to convincingly play someone so youthful. Holland also admitted his personal life has entered a new stage, joking that he is no longer the young actor audiences first met as Spider-Man.
The actor explained that the combination of his evolving career and his latest blockbuster has made the project especially meaningful, calling it the start of “a new chapter” in his life. BBC noted that Holland believes “The Odyssey” represents a defining moment as he transitions into more mature roles.
Playing Telemachus Gave The Actor A New Perspective

The role of Telemachus was more than just another leading role for Holland. The character’s quest for the mythical father he barely recalls led him to revisit questions of identity, responsibility, and maturation into adulthood while also trying to save his mother, Penelope.
The actor also shared one of the film’s messages, saying that there were no set rules for being a man. Rather, he feels the story demonstrates that strength can manifest in a variety of ways and that Telemachus’ development is as significant as the epic struggles around him.
Holland also embraced the physical demands of the production, revealing that he trained extensively in sword fighting for the film, calling it one of the most rewarding parts of making “The Odyssey.”
Tom Holland Admits He Feared He Was Failing Christopher Nolan

Holland’s first days on set were far from the confidence fans might have expected, and working with Christopher Nolan’s IMAX cameras presented a completely new experience for the actor.
The 30-year-old actor later admitted during an interview with Fandango that he thought he was “totally sh-tting the bed” on his very first day of filming.
Holland explained that Nolan kept calling “cut” every few minutes, which left him convinced that something was wrong with his performance. George Cottle later explained that IMAX film magazines hold just three minutes of footage, and he realized the interruptions had nothing to do with his acting.
The experience ultimately became part of a much larger filmmaking milestone. Nolan later explained that “The Odyssey” became the first feature filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, saying he hopes other filmmakers will embrace the format after seeing what was possible.
Holland’s early nerves quickly gave way to an appreciation of the demanding process behind the ambitious production.
Fatherhood Could Mark Tom Holland’s Exit From Hollywood

Although his career is reaching new heights, Holland has already hinted that acting may not remain his lifelong focus. The actor admitted he plans to step away from Hollywood once he starts a family with Zendaya.
Speaking with Men’s Health, Holland said fans would no longer see him on movie screens because he intends to focus on being a father and enjoying a quieter life. He joked that his future would revolve around “golf and dad.”
The comments showed family remains Holland’s biggest priority despite his growing success. PEOPLE later highlighted the remarks.
Tom Holland Still Has Big Dreams Beyond Hollywood Romance

Marriage may dominate headlines, but Holland says he still has major career ambitions, including winning an Academy Award one day.
The actor admitted that winning an Academy Award remains one of his biggest ambitions, describing it as a meaningful honor because it comes from fellow members of the film industry. He added that he hopes to stand on the Oscars stage one day and thank his mother for supporting his journey.
Holland also reflected on how fame has changed him, admitting he would think twice before taking part in something as spontaneous as his now-iconic “Umbrella” performance on “Lip Sync Battle”. He admitted fame has made him more cautious about public moments.
As The Blast previously reported, Holland’s comments highlight how his priorities continue to evolve as he balances a thriving career, a new chapter with Zendaya, and long-term personal ambitions.
