Presley died on the morning of September 20 at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California. According to PEOPLE Magazine, emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 9:35 a.m. following reports of cardiac arrest and a possible overdose.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said responding paramedics pronounced Presley dead at 9:45 a.m. Santa Monica Police confirmed that detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose. Authorities said there were no indications of foul play. However, an overdose has not been established as Presley’s official cause of death.

An autopsy was performed on September 21, but the cause and manner of death were deferred while the medical examiner conducts additional testing and studies. Officials warned that a final determination could take several months.

The family’s representative confirmed Presley’s death and said, “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”

Presley Had Been Open About His Personal Struggles

Presley had publicly discussed his experiences with depression, substance use, panic attacks, and treatment before his death. During a 2023 appearance on the “Studio 22” podcast, he explained that he hoped his willingness to speak openly could help someone experiencing similar difficulties.
