Collin Gosselin is taking on one of reality TV’s most grueling challenges with a personal goal in mind. The former reality TV star is among the latest recruits on “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” where he hopes to prove himself under intense conditions. Collin has also revealed that part of his motivation is to “redeem” his family name, years after his estranged mother, Kate Gosselin, appeared on the show.

Collin Gosselin Is Determined To Go The Distance

Season 5 of “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test” premiered on September 24, bringing together a new group of celebrities to face demanding challenges inspired by Special Forces training. Among the recruits is Collin Gosselin, who has entered the competition with something to prove and a personal goal that goes beyond simply making it through the tasks.

In the first episode, the 22-year-old shared part of his reason for entering the competition. “My mom did this course, like very early on, and got out the first challenge,” Collin said, referring to a task.

Collin, who has been estranged from his mother, Kate Gosselin, for years, wants to perform better than her. “There’s definitely a part of me that’s like, I can do better than that. I guess you could say I’m here to redeem the Gosselin name,” he explained.

Kate Gosselin Was Eliminated On The First Episode

Kate was part of the celebrity contestants on the debut season of “Special Forces,” which aired in 2023.

The first challenge was a tactical insertion that involved jumping from a hovering helicopter into open water 20 feet below. Kate made the jump but fell at an angle and sustained an injury that forced her to leave the show.

In an interview with PEOPLE in 2023, Kate said the first challenge combined two of her fears: water and height. While she pushed herself to commit to the task, she panicked midway and couldn’t keep a straight, rigid position that would ensure a safe landing.

“I landed right on my neck and I screamed when I landed because it was absolute ridiculous pain,” she said, adding that it took a while to come to terms with the fact that she didn’t last longer in the competition.

Collin Gosselin was thrust into the spotlight at just 2 years old, starring in the reality series “Jon & Kate Plus 8” along with his parents and siblings. Collin is one of the Gosselins’ sextuplets and has two older twin sisters.

Jon and Kate went their separate ways, and their divorce was finalized in 2009, with the latter receiving primary custody of all eight children. Sometime in 2016, Kate placed Collin in a behavioral health facility, claiming his then-pre-teen son had violent tendencies.

In 2023, Collin alleged the reason he was sent away was that his mother did not want him to reveal she was abusive. “I was starting to tell people what was going on at home, and she caught wind of that and had to put me somehwere where I wouldn’t be able to get the secrets out,” he claimed, per Us Weekly.

Collin has accused Kate of falsifying disorders and diagnoses, restraining and isolating him, and physically abusing him, all of which his mother has denied.

Kate Gosselin Refuted Her Son’s Claims

Jon fought for Collin’s custody after learning he had been institutionalized. He was released into his care in 2018. Hannah, one of Collin’s sisters, also voluntarily moved with their father.

Kate has repeatedly denied his son’s accusations. Some recommended suing Collin for defamation if his claims are false, and Kate said she had already looked into that possibility. She consulted a lawyer and learned that “rules are different” for public figures.

While she dismissed Collin’s accusations as “made up,” insiders say she is reportedly “nervous” about what his memoir may reveal, according to The Blast.

Collin is also estranged from his six other siblings, but has remained close with Hannah and their father.

He shared there were “a lot of tears and a lot of I love yous” after he told his father he was joining “Special Forces,” per E! Online. He also received support from Colleen, Jon’s ex-girlfriend, whom he calls his “real mom.”

Collin’s memoir is scheduled for release on October 13. Meanwhile, new episodes of “Special Forces” air on Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET on Fox, with streaming available on Hulu the following day.
