In a new interview, she revealed that she is still coming to terms with the criticism but has no plans to stop advocating for the causes she believes in.

Since then, she has repeatedly spoken out against the war in Palestine, particularly the killing of children in the region. Her advocacy has drawn significant backlash.

However, reflecting on everything that has happened, the children’s educator recently revealed that she remains committed to speaking up.

“I wouldn’t change anything,” she revealed during a sit-down with Rolling Stone. “I’m going to stand with them no matter what…People on the ground in Gaza are risking their lives all the time to help kids. I can do it from Manhattan.”

Ms. Rachel Explains What Helped People Connect With Her Advocacy

Despite the backlash she has received, Accurso’s advocacy has resonated with many people concerned about the killings in Gaza.

But that wasn’t always the case. She explained that a shift in her approach helped people connect with her message.

“When I first started talking about Gaza, some people didn’t connect. I realized I had to humanize the kids. That was what needed to happen for people to get involved,” she revealed to the outlet.

She added, “There’s so much attacking in our world, and yelling at each other; it pains me when people don’t have that experience, and so they didn’t see [Palestinian children] that way. But I really believe in people’s ability to learn and change.”

At one point over the last few years, she felt that the negative sentiment had grown even among some of her supporters. It left her wondering why so many people seemed to take issue with her efforts.

“I thought everyone hated me at one point. I remember calling friends and family members, Jewish and not Jewish, and just being like, ‘Why do people hate that I don’t want kids to be killed and starved?’” she recalled.

Through it all, Accurso has had the unwavering support of her husband, Aron, with whom she shares two children, Susannah and Thomas.

“I’m very proud of all the work that Rachel’s doing,” Aron chimed in during the interview. “She wants the best for all the children of the world. She genuinely cares. I know that, and she knows that. And everything else is noise.”

Ms. Rachel’s Advocacy Extends Beyond Palestine

Accurso’s advocacy extends beyond her support for Palestine. She has used her platform to speak out on several issues affecting children and families.

She previously challenged former New York Mayor Eric Adams over proposed cuts to early-childhood education in the city’s 2024 budget and has also criticized President Donald Trump’s ICE detention practices.

Her work has included fundraising efforts for children caught up in conflicts around the world, including those affected by displacement in Sudan and the war in Ukraine.
