Ryan Murphy has given fans a reason to believe the musical series “Glee” could return.

The two-time Golden Globe winner recently said in an interview that he finished a script for a potential reboot, co-written with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, his original “Glee” co-creators.

Murphy also said he spoke with several members of the original cast, hinting that he wants them involved again.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Murphy dropped a bombshell: a “Glee” reboot might soon hit the small screen.

He shared that he had “just finished the script an hour” before the interview, which he penned alongside the original writers from the initial project.

The writer also revealed that he had contacted around 10 members of the original cast about the potential revival, and they seemed “enthusiastic” about working with him once again.

“They all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea,” he added.

Still, a reboot remains uncertain for now, as the original cast has yet to read the script. Murphy also did not reveal whether he has approached any production companies about bringing the project to the screen.

Murphy’s interest in revisiting the show began months earlier following renewed interest in the original series.

In an interview with PEOPLE at the premiere of his FX series “The Shards,” he explained that younger viewers had discovered the show through streaming, which piqued his interest in creating something new.

“That show is interesting because it’s come back around. So many young people now watch it, and I’m like, ‘maybe we should revisit that show,’” he said at the time.

“My nostalgia and love for that show is enough that I’m like, ‘Well, maybe people would like to see a new incarnation of that in some capacity.’ So yeah, I love that show, and I loved what it became and what it meant to so many people,” he added.

Lea Michele Is Ready For A ‘Glee’ Return

Before Murphy announced the finished script, Lea Michele, who played Rachel through all six seasons, had already signaled that she was willing to return for a reboot.

Speaking with E! News at the Michael Kors Spring 2027 show during New York Fashion Week, Michele said, “I love Glee. I will always love Glee. I love Ryan Murphy.”

She described the show as something that “holds such a special place in my heart,” before delivering the line that sent fans into a frenzy: “I will follow Ryan wherever he goes.”

Jenna Ushkowitz, who played Tina Cohen-Chang, has also said she is open to returning if Murphy and the right people are involved.

‘Glee’ Fans Have Mixed Feelings About A Reboot

News of the script quickly sparked debate online. Some fans embraced the prospect of returning to McKinley High, while others questioned whether the show should be revived at all, given how much television and the cultural conversation around some of its storylines have changed since 2015.

“I hate the idea of a reboot, but I wouldn’t mind a sequel (which is never going to happen at least in the near future), or a spin-off,” one Reddit user wrote.

“Honestly, it should have been a new school, new cast, and new storyline. But really honestly the show doesn’t need a reboot. Just make another show about high school music choir,” another individual said.

Where The Original ‘Glee’ Cast Is Today

Since the series ended, the cast has moved in different directions.

Michele returned to Broadway, including a 2025 revival of “Chess.” Darren Criss built a career across television and theater and won a Tony Award for “Maybe Happy Ending.” Amber Riley won an Olivier Award for “Dreamgirls,” while Chris Colfer became a bestselling author. Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, and Heather Morris have remained active in entertainment.

Meanwhile, three cast members, Cory Monteith, Mark Salling, and Naya Rivera, have died, ruling out the possibility of their return.
